Used Z06 vs new Grand Sport
I told my cousin I would ask the collective wisdom of the forum for their opinion. He wants to become a C6 owner.
He has found a dealer that has a 2010 Z06 with only 8,000 miles on it. Apparently the previous owner tired of it and traded it in with massive depreciation. This same dealer also has a brand new 2011 Grand Sport that he is discounting as well. Both cars are manual and have NAV. Here is the problem. The dealer will sell him the used 2010 Z06 for only $6,000 more than the 2011 Grand Sport. He does not know what would be the better decision. He is concerned that the Z06 is going to be cancelled in the near future or the performance will be raised a lot due to the popularity of the Grand Sport. This would drop the value of the Z06 even further. He is leaning toward the Grand Sport simply because it is a 2011. I think he should get the Z06 just because its a Z06 but it is a year old and I think that concerns him. I think the 2011 Z06 has tire and exhaust changes only. I don't know if the transmission changed between 2010 and 2011. Maybe someone else knows. He would appreciate any comments either way to help his decision. |
I would get the Z06. DOn't really have a good reason other that it being faster.
Why is he worried about a value drop on the Z06, and why is he making stuff up to predict a value drop, is he only keeping the car for a short time?
The performance of the Z06 has already been raised...it's called the ZR1 and Z06 Carbon Edition.
If it's for street only then go with the new car. Even if he's going to race, why pay $6k more for a used car? GS would be great on the track.
Just popped into a large Chev dealer in N. TX yesterday. They had about 20 vettes on the lot.
In the showroom were 3 ZR 1's, and a Z06. Outside, the rest were hugely over numbered with Grand Sports and only a couple of base models. The GS will to be the new king of the road..... |
:iagree: Sounds good to me.

He's going to buy a car based on our opinions - COOL. Tell him to get the Z06 then because you get to play with the other big boys on the block.

What does he want to do with the car?
Z06 = fixed roof, GS = removable roof, does he care either way ?
Since I'm spending your cousin's money, tell him to go for both. No decision necessary.
Lookin good on that track, Tom.
I've been contemplating this as well!
My problem is I don't like the GS fenders, so I'd swap them for ZR1 fenders. I really think I want a Z06, but a new car sounds so much better. Has anyone bought a GS when thinking about a Z06 and regretted it? |

Who said he is only keeping the car a short time ? He tends to keep his cars for a long time. He does not track his cars. I remember the needle bearing issue on the LS7 a few years ago and mentioned it to him. That might have scared him.
Unless the GS is a Vert, do the Z06:thumbs:
If your going to race the car get the Z, for the street the NEW GS is fast enough
Just went thru the same thing. Had a chance to buy a 2010 Z06 with 3000 miles or a new GS witheverything I wanted. Bought the GS, it was deliverd on Wednesday....No regrets.
If I had the chance ( and I don't) to make that decision I would go with the ZO6. Why? Because, the GS is a great car, but, a ZO6 will always be the ultimate Corvette and you will never regret the extra HP.
The Z06 is the last "427" that will be made.I have one but have driven both. The GS is more civilized. the Z06 flat out scares me
