Exhaust Valves Fail on $500k cars too.

For all the "Sky is falling" posters on here that freak out everytime a story emerges of an exhaust valve failing, this is for you.:D

A Ferrari Enzo engine failed at Laguna Seca earlier this year. Looks like an exh valve broke off and destroyed a $200k motor. With only 400 Enzos built and one failing, I am sure that is a higher percentage of failures then all the LS7 built to date vs those that have failed. :smash:

I bet it was tuned.

Especially when you factor in the actual Mileage put on these 400 cars.

I bet you there is one C6 Z06 on here that has more miles than all 400 Enzos combined.

That is UG-LEE

I had a ride in this Enzo before it broke. Wow, what a car.
Bill is a good friend of mine and it's really too bad that this happened.
He's been driving his F40 in the mean time.

Man that had to hurt, those cars are fantastic in every way. Only wish I had the financial means to buy one. Great reference point by the way.. :yesnod:

Must be nice when your back up car is an F40. Always wanted one of those. Hopefully he gets the car sorted out.

What does one do for a living to have that much sitting the garage?? Just curious, cause Bill sounds like a level, nice guy from his post.

Gives a new meaning to "gotta pay to play".

obzidian 12-17-2010 02:17 AM

Man, the stroke sure is small on those motors..... when down to a shortblock, does it really look like a 200k motor? :)

songman3 12-17-2010 03:30 AM

Ferrari are superb enthusiast machines without doubt - who would deny that!
I had my cheque written out for an F360 Challenge Stradale, then at the last minute I got a chance to try Z06, and I was hooked!

The Vette for a number of reasons just suited me better - I've never regretted the choice.

It is certainly true in my experience that Ferrari owners usually tend to cover very low mileages in their cars, for many reasons I suppose -not least, service costs, maintenance of resale value!!

The older, less exotic cars are not too expensive to maintain when using independent specialist dealers - I know guys who have covered 50,000+ miles without too much grief

I have however heard of some rather expensive 'occurrences' with some of the newer cars.
Things do go wrong, and when they do, main dealer spares/labour costs are huge - only guys with deep pockets need apply!

There are exceptions though -the F40 pictured below is used for HPDE without too much 'trouble' - err, well everything's relative :)

There are a lot more Ferrari than Z06 Corvettes around where I live, so I'm lucky enough to get to play in both worlds - great fun!

For those who wonder? - well, the Z06 holds its head up just fine even when running along in this exalted company;) - no problem:thumbs:

Looks like a Pankl titanium rod. Same as the LS9.

Bride wanted to buy me a birthday present, so tried on a 360 Modena Cabriolet while at the Wynn-Penske dealership in Las Vegas.
Honestly for me the car was way too cramped inside as well as (I thought) quite spartan. Seating was simply uncomfortable.
And not to seem to chinsy, but, it'd have taken Soyuz 11 to appreciate the price.
Thanks, but no thanks.

Essentially I wanted brute performance *and* some semblence of comort; so, bought the Z06, instead.
As much as I love any of the Ferraris, I've never regretted the decision.
