Door Glass Adjustment Issue

1974 Corvette with power windows. Having trouble adjusting RH door glass. Appear to have horizontal movement in glass. When I adjust glass and then operate glass (up and down), the glass moves almost an inch forward towards the front of the car, makes premature contact with the pillar post weatherstrip and does not raise completely. I have no such problem with the LH glass. Must be missing a stopper or something. Can anyone assist?

I've replaced my window and door seals also. New motor springs. Cleaned/greased the electric motor mech. Cleaned/greased all the tracks. Same issue. I've adjusted it every way possible.....still have to open the door to close the windows all the way.

I gave up.

FWIW: the assembly instruction manual (AIM) has good instructions and diagrams for setting door glasses.

My advice would be to purchase the AIM and proceed step by step as outlined.

Thanks for that. I was hoping to avoid having to remove the glass in order to determine what parts might be missing/faulty. I was hoping that someone on the Forum would say: "You're missing such and such". A

Hi T,
I think it's very possible that you can make the adjustment without removing the glass.
The mechanism was designed so all the adjustment could be made with just the interior trim panel off. So unless some part is very worn, broken, or missing, the glass can stay in place.
The answer could well be in the AIM instructions as Mike mentions.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I have adjusted the glass as per the AIM, but the movement remains. Must be a worn or missing part. I'm a driver, not a technician. Do you know which part(s) control the horizontal movement? A

Sounds like there is at least a few well worn parts and the other parts are worn to a lesser extent also. After all the car is 36 years old. A good inspection, cleaning of the tracks and replacement of relativly inexpensive rollers would more than likley solve your problems. With the A.I.M. as your guide, and some patience, this would be a great job for someone of your limited skill level to accomplish. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself and save some money. A true Win Win!
Have fun and good luck!

Exacty what did you do? Was it working before? I have replaced the motor and spring on mine. Sometimes it seats some times it doesn't. I think the excessive play is coming from a worn regular. Its the only thing left. Thats the next thing I will replace.

Search for master tech

I rebuilt mine and had same issue. Did my best then went to two shops, none helped. Then I went to M&N body shop. 15 min and it works like new. I watched. He loosened same bolts I had been working with, pulled window and tightened bolts. He did two, maybe three times and done.

The masters are still out there, you just gotta find them.

GD70 01-08-2011 10:49 AM

When I did mine, I loosened all the adjustment bolts slightly and once the window was positioned properly, tightened everything down. Took a bit of time but no problems. For me, the toughest area was at the rear window sealing against the rear side WS's.
