99 Pass Window Won't Roll Down - Regulator Question

I know this has been discussed at length, as I have used the search function here.

In my case, the passenger side window won't roll down. I press the button and hear a 'click', but nothing else.

So, I figure the regulator needs replaced.

I looked online at some discounted parts places and see where they sell the power window motor + regulator assemblies pretty cheaply. Can I simply unbolt the regulator from the power window + regulator that I buy from a store and swap it with the one on my car?

It may seem like a dumb question, but I don't want to go through the trouble of replacing the power window motor if it is not bad. If it is just the regulator, I would rather just replace it.

Thanks!

before it stopped rolling down completely, had it been getting slow, or struggling?

or did it seem like it was moving fast enough, but made a grinding or binding noise?

scenerio one sounds like a dead motor, and youre hearing the relay clicking.

scenerio 2 sounds like a bent or bound up regulator. if you want to be sure, pop the door panel off and test the connector by unplugging it from the motor and checking for power and ground. if you have it, the motor is bad. (unless c5's work off a completely ground control like from a BCM, im unaware)

if you have it at the connector, the motor is bad.

edit:
since c5's are a single cable driven unit, you can only replace the whole assembly. motor and regulator together.

as long as youre sure the switch isnt bad, go ahead and replace it! (test both switches, driver door and passenger door)

Before the window stopped rolling down, it seemed to work fine with respect to speed. There were no noises out of the ordinary.

The window regulator/motor is an assembly. There's a single steel cable that's run through both rails and two pulley plus looped through the motor too. I just replaced my driver's door one and from what I saw, its best to just replace the entire assembly.

91Vette, see link posted below. I followed the process described and now have a working window.

Confirm power first as mentioned. The passenger side motor can stop working due to lack of use. The armature shafts have no lubrication that I can see. You can try whacking on it to try and free it up . The best way to fix it is to take off the motor housing and spray some wd-40 on the bushings and brushes. There are threads that go into more detail.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I will be replacing the motor/regulator. I'll mine the site as I bet there are some detailed write ups with pics as to how to do this.

Its pretty easy to do and the only less than easy part is adjusting the window which you will see how to do pretty fast.

My 04 z did the same thing took door panel off and tapped on the motor a few times also pulled up and pushed down on the window while pushing the button and it freed up, it was moving a little slow but got better the more i cycled it, it stoped working again a week or 2 later and i pulled the rubber plug from the bottom of the door an put a long socket extention up thru the bottom of the door and tapped the motor again and started working again and has not quite yet. i do have a hoist so working from under the door was alot easier than from the ground
I think the motors get sticky from lack of use, i cycle mine now just to make sure
good luck
Steve
