Bought 3rd Vette to Restore

Well, I did it again.
I bought my 3rd Corvette. An 86 Pace-car convertible.
My intention is to restore it to a respectable level and resell it. That's what I was going to do with the 84 I got last year, but my daughter fell in love with the car and now it's hers.

Info: Car is black w/ red interior/ sport seats/ black top/ wing/ aftermarket wheels/ late aluminum heads/ auto.

Issues: What I 've found so far... Rear windshield is gone/ sat outside since Nov. 2010, (rain, snow, leaves, etc... poured into the car) because the dumba$$ that had the car didn't use the car cover he had in the trunk. :cuss
Also, slight damage to frt nose/ stereo won't work/ pass window switch bad/ shift linkage out of adjustment/ heater controls don't want to move/ no horn & lastly, violent tire vibration (frt) above 50mph. :ack:

Here is what I'm working on.

You are a brave man!

delphipgmr 03-06-2011 04:20 PM

im not sure this is going to be a profitable venture for you... hopefully you got the care like for free or close to it.

i see at least $3K in parts to get that up to sellable condition.

just a decent paint job will cost you 3-6K on top of it.

Cosmetically that is about what I am up against too minus the damage. Mine is a 1986 coupe however and all of the clear coat has come off and peeled. I am still finding leaves and gunk in places I never thought I would find that sort thing! lol! I will definitely follow your progress as I am very much a noob. I am sure you will get her back to where she belongs.

Hard to believe that people would let a Vette get to such sad shape. :(

QCVette 03-06-2011 09:59 PM

Congrats on your third.

It looks like a fun project. Keep us posted with pictures along the way.

I'm sure it will come out nice like your others.

tblt44 03-07-2011 06:36 PM

Good luck,I hope you can do the paint and body work yourself or have a friend that can do it and you should be ok.

FOURSPEEDVETTE 03-07-2011 06:49 PM

How much do you figure you'll have to spend to get it back in shape? What caught your eye about it enough to buy it?
