Help! Solid red radio light stays on and radio won't work!!

Did a search and came up with nothing. I have an 01 z06 and the factory radio red light (near the power button) stays solid on. I can't do anything to the radio, it won't even turn on. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok I tried all the steps in the owners manual and the other instructions. The car has just been sitting in storage. I guess I'll check the fuses? Any other ideas, it does nothing when you try and press anything. I followed the instructions properly.

The dealer code shown in the link doesn't work anymore. Probably a folded dealer due to the "economy".

I have literally tried every possible combination of button pressing, checked fuses (all good), and this is all I get,

Nothing happens when I press anything. It's like the radio doesn't have power and just a solid red light next to the power button. It's steady even if I lock the doors, unlock, doesn't flash. Just on. It's frustrating because you never think about how important the radio is until you don't have it lol. It has power, but nothing comes up on the radio display. Maybe a connector in the back of the radio fell out? I do have the radio connected to my Ipod ISimple system. Everything was working fine three months ago and was on a trickle charger. Could it possibly be something with that? It has to be something with the anti theft system. My next sad step is calling the stealership. Anyone?????:bigears

Did you take this advise? If your radio has the lock feature enabled, you will need to do this.:toetap:

stupid fast Z06 03-18-2011 10:40 AM

disconnect the battery.

Follow the instruction in the post/links above and don't use one code thinking it is going t work the first time. There are different codes and you may have to go through a few of them to find the right one for you. From what you are showing the radio has the anti theft on. This has happened because your battery may of discharged (gotten low) at some point and caused this. When this is figured out have your batter checked...

Thanks for the tip/help. Why didn't I think of that? I now have the radio working again, but now my Ipod Isimple set-up doesn't seem to be working. So now I have to figure out what's wrong with that lol. If it's not one thing it's another:crazy:.

glad it got the radio working again.

iPod connection may be a loose wire.

Or you may have to get the CD/AUX input to 're-recognize" your iPod. This happens to my XM when my voltage goes low or the battery is disconnected. I do this by disconnecting power to the XM module, turning on the radio, selecting CD/AUX; then reconnect power to the XM module and turn on the XM controller before the radio completes the 10 second countdown on the display.

Thanks for the help and info everyone. I got everything fix I just need to put my dash back together now. I used this method,

I put this together for the GM10-Aux, but it may work for the isimple also:

-unplug GM10-Aux from Cor-Har changer cable
-let it sit overnight (a few hours at least)
-with car still off, plug in GM10-Aux
-let it sit for at least 10 minutes
-turn on car & radio, select changer on radio
-if it works (Disc 1 Track 1) you're done
-if it doesn't work, leave car running but turn off radio
-unplug GM10-Aux, then reconnect it
-turn on radio, it should work

I have to keep the car on a trickle charger or it will drain the battery in less then a week. Kind of a PITA but I have no idea what's causing it. I still have no idea what caused the radio to have the solid red light of radio death lol. Either way, I'm happy it's fixed .

I know this is an ancient thread, but to help anyone else who searches for "solid red light radio off" or similar:

This happened to me shortly after I installed one of the ipod/aux adapters in my Z06 (with the battery disconnected): solid red light by the volume knob, display off.

This is NOT the locked/theft-protection symptoms; it's not asking for an unlock code and the radio in this car does NOT have a theft-protection number set, per the previous owner :).

So far the radio has gone dead this way 2x in short order, and the temporary workaround is to pull & reinsert the radio fuse (it is NOT blown).

If I find a true/permanent fix, I'll also post that here.
