C5 Passenger Door Window/Locks

For the second time, my 2002 passenger door locks and window are not working. Had the passenger door module (Part # 10342160) replaced in 2007 at dealer for almost $400. Part alone was $290. Is this a common problem and can the module be sent out for a fix? Where can you pick up a Passenger Door Module?

Thanks

Just an idea, have you looked at the wires as they run through the accordion to get into the door? A short there could be damaging the module.

Good luck

:iagree: If you've had this happen more than once, I'd start looking for root causes. Might just be a faulty part but it's probably worth looking into.

You can swap the two modules to test if its the module or not but be sure to put them back where they belong. If the module is the source, then the relay inside may be the cause. Taking it a step farther, if the relay contacts are burning, then the door locks are dragging too much current through them which then you need to look at the actual locks.

Hey Fred, I had the EXACT same problem and it was a simple fix as NO parts are necessary. Be SURE to take your time with this procedure and I guarantee you won't have this problem again.

The problem (which was a phantom problem for 2 dealerships) is the wiring harness in the passenger accordion (Open the passenger door).
I finally decided to try a simple fix as my passenger side window and passenger side doorlock were dead even from the drivers side switch. Here WAS the problem... The prongs INSIDE the wiring connector in the accordion are coming a little loose from the plastic end. The little metal prong is being pushed out of its orafice and you CAN'T see it when it gets dislodged.
Sounds ridiculous, Right??? It's not. One of the fine people told me about this on THESE boards and they were 100% correct.
The fix is simple but a bit challenging on the passenger side (driver's side is easy). PULL back on the accordion and pull the cover off the inner wall of under and to the right of the glove box. GRAB both the male and the female plugs (that go into each other) and push hard on the wires where they go into the plastic connector. You may or may not hear a click, but one or more of these little metal connectors in the plastic end are not locked in and get pushed through the back end of the connector when you mate the two. You wont see it but it IS the issue. When this happens, no contact is made between the male and female side of this connection and....POW....No power to the right side door.
After you push hard on each wire to make sure it doesn't dismount from its orafice, then pull on each wire on both the male and female sides to make sure that they are not coming out of the connector (the little tyne that holds them into the connector occasionally gets pushed in and the contact will push out of its orafice and unfortunately you can't see through the connector when you put the male into the female).
Problem is SOLVED. Been THERE Done THAT!!!!

Hope this helps. I had this problem off and on for 2 years until finally the passenger side was just dead. Got on these boards and read this and thought it was ridiculous but it was the absolute cure as I haven't had any problem since (2 years).

That was it. THANKS for the tip. Did not unwrap the tape to get to the connection block, but pushed it together as best I could (tight space) and it worked. If I continue to have problems, I will cut tape to get to connector.

Thanks for the tip again

Fred

That's what we're here for. It's a lot better than replacing a perfectly good module and CHEAPER too.

Great information - thanks and I'll keep this for future reference.

passenger door lock and window

I've read the posts here and have tried the connectors in the accordian boot. No go. I can hear the relays in the door module click when I use the drivers controls, both the window and the door lock. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I too have the same problem. I can hear it click. I tried to push the window down, wiggle it with the "down" button pressed and still nothing. Even took of the top just incase it was stuck on it. Let me know if you found a working solution?! Thanks.

I changed out the door control module and that fixed the door lock, must have been corroded relay in the module. Did not fix the window but I rapped the window motor with a screwdriver handle with the down button pressed and it started working. Motor must have been stuck, a week later the motor didn't work again, time to replace the motor. Check for 12 volts at door lock and window motor before replacing the control module. Good Luck!

Actually I did something similar. Did not have an issue with the lock though. I took of the door panel, held down the "down" button and hit behind the window motor with a hammer significantly hard a few times...and its been working since.....(last 2 weeks). One thing thou, if you get it working....work the window daily to keep it from locking up!

How does one get the door open, It does not have electric lock, has push/pull knob in the handle. Can not unlock with a key.
Thanks

George
