Caliper Covers - Experience Anyone?

I have been debating for some time whether or not I wanted to paint my calipers and what color to chose. While doing some research I came across some GM licensed caliper covers for around $180.00. I have never seen them installed or spoken with anyone who has tried them. I know I could buy alot of paint for that kind of money but if they look good, don't peel/chip and maintain their gloss, I might give them a second look.

So, I am asking for input good or bad. How do they fit, look or last? I am getting ready to put the car on jack stands to do some needed maintenance and I thought I would pull the trigger on the caliper project and make a decision.

Thanks,

90Indy

I'm not sure what they look like but can only suspect that anything that covers the calipers will tend to hold in heat (which is not a good thing).

You're right, $180 will buy a lot of paint but why spend that much. For a few bucks you can paint your calipers and have money left over for other projects.

One more thing, unless you're running some sort of open wheel (A molds or Y2Ks for example) painted calipers are a waste of money. With every stock wheel on the C4 no one is ever going to see the calipers except the guy who does you brake job.

I have the MGP red "Corvette" caliper covers installed. They're supposedly designed to draw heat away from the brake calipers.

These were on the car when I bought it so I don't know much about them other than I think they look great. Better than painted C4 calipers in my opinion. This is the only pic I have that kind of shows them.

Well I looked at them and decided not, I didn't like that they didn't fit the calipers very good.looked boxy a cheap cover up type of thing. I painted my calipers, I had less than 25.00 doing it then I bought some polished stainless plates on ebay that go in before the brake pads to cover up the rust that might be showing on rear of brake pad. These look like chrome in holes of caliper. I spent a little while cutting them to cover brake pad a little closer but you wouldn't have to do this. I did it because I'm prepping it for car shows this summer and wanted it perfect. Good Luck Tim

:iagree:

Reminds me of some of the stuff you could find in a JC Whitney cataglog, or the local AutoZone "bling" section. :D

I painted mine about 2 years ago. There are kits out there that allow you to paint the calipers while still on the car. I pulled mine and did them right! I used flat black high temp paint!
