Incapacitated by capacitors

Finally purchased a set of capacitors for my 66, 327 350hp with power nothing. I have had no trouble installing most of them but have question on the parking brake capacitor installation. Where is the existing screw hole to mount it? My AIM manual does not show it (or least I can't find it).

Also the catalog (LIC), lists an alternator capacitor and a distributor capacitor. I did not purchase those. Do I need those also? If so, where can I find guidance on the connections for these? They were not on the car when I purchased it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have an AIm you can find them on U69, sheets A5 and A6 ( at least on a 65 but the pages should be close. If you don't PM or post your email and I'll scan and send.

just FYI unless you are dead set on having a correct car you don't need any of them

U69 page 5 shows ignition, ammeter, turn signal, and brake light capacitors. Page 6 shows heater blower, coil, and voltage regulator capacitors. I do not see parking brake capacitor.

I know how to connect the parking brake capacitor to the brown wire, but can't find the screw hole.

At some point I want to be listen to the radio. The power antenna is now operational so I would like to give the radio a try.

Also, last summer I was getting speaker static even with the radio off. I assumed it was due to lack off capacitors. I ended up disconnecting the speaker wire just ride in peace and quiet (I have side pipes some peace and quiet is a relative term).

the capacitors was for AM

When I gave you those references I was thinking brake light capacitor not parking brake alarm light capacitor. I just went out and looked at mine and I don't have any on my parking brake alarm switch ( doesn't mean there shouldn't be......)

AM radio only, not needed for FM?

I am sure. if you are hearing static it very well could be your speaker

Other than the capacitor on the voltage regulator, I don't have any of them. My AM radio reception is just fine. You may hear a click on AM when you press the brake pedal, etc. (I don't) without the capacitors, but unless you're looking for Bloomington Gold, they're total overkill.

Could be the speaker, but it is brand new. As I recall, the static was only evident with the lights on.

Too late now, I am committed as they say.

There's no capacitor at the parking brake alarm switch - the capacitor in that circuit has a Scotchlok crimp connector on it, and goes on the tan wire on the back of the cluster that goes to the bulb. It's shown in Section U69, sheet A5, and item #6 is the capacitor, retained by an existing cluster can screw. Someone posted the photo below some time back that shows it.

I'm thinking the alternator capacitor is the one on the voltage regulator. Distributor capacitor would be the one on the coil.

Alternator capacitor

The alternator capacitor is internal to the alternator. If you look at the back of your alternator, right next to the rear bearing, you will see the back of it. It's the circular item in this photo, just above the rear bearing. The second picture is the voltage regulator capacitor.

Thanks for all your help.

The photo was a big help. The wiring connection (push pin) is similar to adding a splice for trailer wiring. Should be no problem now.

Coil capacitor = Distributor capacitor. Then I am finished. However, the question is why does LIC list it in their catalog Part # 53-03N? Labeled "capacitor in distributor (with DR and Number)".

Sounds like they are describing the condensor that is used with points

I think you may be right.

Anyone have a photo of the whole cluster that shows where the capacitor attaches that's shown in JohnZ's post #13 ?

Thanks-
