Blown Head Gasket- Dura-Seal
 

I don't have the $ to take the heads to a machine shop, so I'm going to try the Dura-Seal product for Chevy engines with aluminum heads. It's $100 and a money back guarantee. I will take a video of the process and post the results after I'm done. I am just trying to buy time until I have the time and money to do the job right. Haven't been able to drive my DD vette for about two months. I have only had the use of my motorcycle, which is suppose to be my toy, not a DD. It does however get twice the mpg in the city, which is nice, but not nice for grocery shopping.
Has anyone tried this product before?

:iagree: If that stuff gets into the water passages in either the head or the block, you could be looking at more problems than just a head gasket.

The "guarantee" will probably be nothing more than getting your $100 back and then only after proving that the material did not work as advertised. If it turns out you have something more serious than just a bad head gasket and unseen further engine damage, they will not pay.

I have the same concerns, but I just don't have the money right now to tear it down and have the heads checked. My dad's buddy has used it in several cars where it fixed the problem, with no ill effects. He said one of the cars was done about a year ago and is still fine. I hope he's right.
I plan on building a new engine anyway next year, maybe an LS engine swap. I'm graduating next week with a BAS, so I hope to be making decent money by next year as I am only working two days a week right now, due to school.

Ya know what? It might just work. I used Bar's Stop Leak in a 87' Ford Escort that I had, after the heater core started leaking. I had all the worst symptoms. The interior smelled like my radiator and the windshield was fogging up like something out of "Deadliest Catch". That car sure wasn't worth the work, so I tried the stop leak and it fixed it. The heater still worked, the radiator still cooled and the car ran for another year and a half before swallowing another valve (the Ford Escort-Mazda motors are famous for doing this and it was on it's third engine).

Ya know, once on a road trip my old C3 fogged the windshield. Stopped at a convenience store and poured a can of black pepper in the radiator. Three years later I replaced the heater core as a preventive thing, never had a problem. I say go for it and report back.:cheers:

There's a big difference between a heater core leak and a blown head gasket.

years ago, I did a real minor head gasket leak with 'bars leak' i think it was , it worked for a water passage that was leaking and just getting a plug wet , but I didnt trust it. had more than a few customers come in with 'block seal' in their engines. that stuff plugged water passages solid, couldnt get it out, the radiator leak fixes work pretty good. like I said ' good luck'.

:iagree: No way I'd expect it to work on my car. I have a spare motor on the stand anyway. Still may be worth a try to get him by for a while.

I was just wondering how things were going with the Dura Seal.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that my head gasket is blown. I have neither garage, money nor time to work on it right now (nor have I ever done as big of a job). Also, how bad was you car leaking; just a little smoke or like James Bond pressed the smoke screen button? thx

Ya, it turned out to be my radiator, so I don't have a diffinitive answer for you. It does have a moneyback guarantee though. I was convinced enough to try it.
