Plastic Tack Strips
I am getting ready to replace the top on my 67. Has anyone used the plastic tack strips? Are they better than the fiberboard?

I used the plastic tack strips once many years ago, but I will always use the cardboard strips in the future. I feel that the staples hold better.

The guy that just did mine looked at the cardboard tack stripes and laughed. He said they had not used them in ten or fifteen years. Not sure how they will hold up over time but that rubber / plastic is much more tough than the cardboard.

I've used the plastic on two different tops, never had a problem with either.

Thanks for the responses, the guy who is going to help me do the install is bringing the plastic tack strip material. I will try to stop and take pictures as we install the new top.

I'm no convertible top expert, but I have been involved in putting on 5-6 of them over the years.
Never had a problem using the plastic tack strip. The only "problem" that I've encountered is the installation of the tack strip itself. I've never seen a width "wide enough" to fill the trough in the bow above the window. We've had to piece them in. Most of the old cardboard ones I've seen are trashed, have 10 zillion old staples in them, and are as hard as a rock. :D Chuck |
