Oil pan gasket replacement
 

Hi , my oil pan is leaking bad after it got floded with gas due a defective injectors, is there a way to replace it without pulling the engine out?

Lucky for you GM made it real easy to remove the sump and replace the gasket, I believe you need the one piece gasket for the 91 vette.
Jack the car up nice and high, use stands so the car does not fall on you:ack:
Drain the oil/ fuel, remove the knock sensor guard and remove the sump/ oil pan bolts and remove sump.
Install a new gasket and bolt it back on, don't over tighten :thumbs:

Just think of that SATISFIED feeling when you have fixed it yourself...
Start her up .... Vrooom ...:woohoo: slowly back her out the driveway and lay down some rubber.... you should then feel all is as it should be :rock: :flag:

just to throw in my 2 cents - the FSM (factory service manual) is the only way to fly, and felpro for the one-piece pan gasket. just a note - keep track of the location of the studs, nuts, brackets, and associated hardware securing the oil pan. make a mental note, and if needed, a simple drawing.

:cheers::cheers::cheers::iagree:, 2 weeks ago when this happened to me, and after all that white smoke, and the neighbores were complaining of the fuel smell and the smoke when i was starting it trying to figure out what was wrong, when i finally figuered it out and it was only the fpr, replaced it, drained the fuel/oil from the oil pan, and started it and boom i was able to spin tires again, i was really satisfied and proud!!:cheers:

Definitely use the Fel-Pro one piece pan gasket, it has metal grommets in each bolt hole that prevents you from tightening it down too much.
Since you are smart enough to jump in and do your own work the FSM is a must have. Check ebay for a used one, they are on there all the time. Just remember to get the exact year for your car.
One thing to remember, when you go to pull the pan out of the car it may hang up on the crank throws, simply rotate the engine by hand until it will slide right out.

I've never seen an oil pan gasket leak because of rich fuel mixture, and I've flooded em pretty bad! Ive had secondaries pour quarts of gas into the engine and get into the oil. All I did was change the oil...twice.

Well, it was leaking oil from before, yesterday after it was full with gas, it was leaking a lot making a lake underneath it, I put the car on the jack stand to look underneath it to see where it's leaking from, and it's stopped leaking!! I left from the back too to make it even, it started leaking again, I looked and I saw it leaking from the front of the oil pan where the sump covers it and I could barley see it, but I also saw a big piece of black selicon hanging out of the oil pan and the gas was leaking through it!! So I think the selicon couldn't resist the gas and gave up at that point!

If you use the FelPro 1 piece gasket be WARNED that the washers embedded in the gasket at the two rear holes must be removed. These washers do not fit over the bosses in the rear main seal frame that the studs are screwed into...and thus do not let the gasket to fit against the engine block....it will leak....believe me...I found this out the hard way.

Even if you use the four piece oil pan gasket you have to enlarge the holes for the rear two holes to fit over the bosses.

Check this out before you put silicon in the four corners.

I don't understand what you are saying. I have that gasket on my Vette and on my El Camino and never had to do any such thing to either one.

My '85 Vette has a two piece rear main seal while my Camino has a late model vortec 350 with a one piece rear main seal and neither one has such a thing. Now maybe the LT engines may have some such thing but to be completely honest I find it REAL hard to believe Fel- Pro would produce a gasket you had to modify to fit. Just get the Fel pro one piece gasket that is made for your '91 and you'll be okay.
