My UPP Twin Turbo thread

Here is the thread where I will be updating my install of UPP's twin turbo kit.

My current setup:

LS2 Stock block
Pat G spec'd cam 226/226 .60x/.60x 117lsa
HOB Eliminator Complete Kit
ID1000's running E85
RPS Twin Carbon w/tick Master
LS9 head gaskets
ARP Head studs
2.5 Bar Custom OS by HPTuners
Self tuned

So far I've customized the kit by adding:
AEM Truboost
1/0 Gauge remote battery kit by Painless

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/34cfc8b8.jpg

Currently, Im sending out the Hot side of the Kit to Thermal Tech Coating and having the Turbo-X 2000 ceramic coating put on. Expected return to be 3 weeks. =( I had a local guy lined up but his ceramic was only good to 1300 and he was backlogged 6-8 weeks.

Now im working on a way to get the turbos to drain back to the oil pan without the use of the Turbowrex pump. I'll have to have a closer look at it when i get home, but i think the turbo sits high enough and like eliminating any possible failure items.

anyways, check back often for updates as this will be where i post any install updates and eventually my dyno and track times.

Goal 800whp from stock bottom end! and 9.9's in the 1/4

In for updates as they unfold.

I donno about eliminating the scavenging pump although I do think the scavenging routing could be improved by drilling a hole in the pan instead of routing it back up to the valve cover. But I'll admit I'm fairly ignorant about oiling and return of the oil with a TT setup.

Are you going to slightly crush the turbo-to-IC tubes or cut the fender liners?

In for updates.

Awesome, Ill be checking in for updates.

How far do you think the ID1000's will take you on E85?

You shouldn't need anywhere near 800 rwhp to run a 9.9.

In a manual/turbo car getting off the line is very tricky and the extra mph in the trap will help make up for a less than optimal short time. I'd bet that he will trap 10-12mph more than is nessary to run a 9.9.

That Turbowerx Exa pump is a very solid piece. I would think it would be the least of your worries.

bill, ill be crushing the pipes, i dont see it hurting the flow that much, guys are running 700 through 2.5 inch single pipes on single 76mm setups.

yeah, routing the oil return all the way to the front and to the scavenge pump is something i want to rework.

just got home and looked at it mocked up, looks like the line would have to hug the frame, but the exhaust wraps so nicely around that im not seeing a way to snake the line to the pan while keeping a downward path. oh well, im not going to rule it out but will look at it all again once i get it a final mock up. maybe make a custom bracket and move the scavenge pump back by the oil filter.

definitely not going to have the return to the oil cap, last resort ill just tap the pan in the front underneath the crank sensor.

800, my previous setup was a vortec si trim with a 3.25 pulley, 12-13psi. never dyno'd but im sure it was/if not over 700whp. i was only at 75% IDC. supercharger robbing at least 60hp, with the turbos i only need to make another 40 or so hp to hit 800, at least, thats what im thinking.

i dyno'd 630 on 9lbs early that year on 93 and ran a 10.9 @ 135 .. i never took it to the track with the 3.25 pulley. track conditions/weather never were in my favor.

If you need pictures of where I just tapped my LS2 oil pan for the line coming from the turbowerx pump to the pan, let me know.

Those Spyder wheels look perfect on your car. That is all.

In for ID1000 mafia.

Thanks man!
Oh, and I put my ID1000's in yesterday. Made a few adjustments and they freaking idle like a dream. That it all...LOL

Based on other testing with turbo combos I was going to guesstimate about 750whp MAX on a turbo vette at 80% IDC. But will be interested to hear the report back.

Thats right about what I thought, Taylor

80 psi base pressure! WHAT!?!?! lol jk!

some progress today,

Recieve my 60amp fast plug to replace the stock fan's plug that was all burnt up.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/7a17d3fc.jpg

I removed the Onstar VCIM and jumped the j4 pin 2,8 and 3,9
Installed the Optima D35 yellow top
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/dc604937.jpg

Installed the 1 gauge ground and temped the power wire.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/3007fe55.jpg

removed the stock power battery harness, the stock wires are so tiny! no wonder there are so many electrical gremlins in this car!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/beed476d.jpg

removed the intercooler and installed the UPP radiator cradle spacers and mocked up the intercooler.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/eb379f41.jpg
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7/2031e776.jpg

Ive also decided against the ceramic coating, just because i dont want this car down for 3 more weeks! ill just wrap it with the DEI Titainum exhaust wrap i purchased last week and call it good until i take the car down again (which i hope is never!)

now its time for a beer and some sleep!

FWIW, I made 761whp on a D1 powered LS7 (stock bottom end with head work and a blower cam) with ID1000s and a returnless fuel system that used a BAP on the stock pump. This was on 93 octane, and IDC was 78%. Take that for what it is worth. Return system changes the game significantly though. The pump was losing pressure too.

This is purely meant as an example of duty cycle using ID1000s.

Subscribed. All the best!

Thank you Carl,

Everyone's been looking for someone to do a write up.

Must have had like 30psi at the end of the pull :(

I have made 1000rwhp with ID1000's and 80% IDC with proper return style fuel systems. Several times.

I've been waiting to see your install

Good stuff so far, keep it coming. I should really look into that battery re-location too.

It was pretty close.

My ID1000s on my return setup at 15psi are just chillin.
