L88 Road Race wiring and fuel changes

1) Anyone know how the L88 road racers like owen corning cars etc where wired? Where they special individual component wired? Anyone know of a quality company that will build factory minus harnesses?
2) Also does anyone know how the racers fuel lines were ran through the cowl panel and out the firewall like the #48 car? thanks!

Not sure about the Corvettes but on my particular racer I ran AN-8 (1/2") line from the tank, through the filter, then through the pump, then to a union in the rear bulkhead via a 45 degree and 90 degree elbow, then though the interior alongside the driveshaft tunnel, then through a union in the firewall via two 90 degree elbows, into and out of the regulator which is mounted on the firewall and finally up to the carb. I'm probably not helping you much but the VARA tech people advised me to plumb my car that way so that's what I did , and I think you'll find that while this method may not be identical to the exact way a given car was plumbed back in the day it is what most vintage groups like NOW, which is to say SAFE. Wherever you feed through a firewall or bulkhead the correct method is to feed the line through using a bulkhead union with the hose attached to it via a hose end of some sort on either side, NOT just stuffing the hose through a hole with a grommet in it. The straight hose ends are obviously a lot cheaper then the 45/90/120 degree elbows but sometimes you can save a few bucks by using 90 degree bulkhead unions with straight fittings. Hopefully this at least gives you a general idea...I'll post a few pix later if you'd like but they won't be Corvette pix. As far as wiring perhaps somebody else can help with that one...

Kevin MacKay at Corvette Repair, Inc. on Long Island should be able to answer those questions as he has restored many race cars.

Check out his 5 pic slideshow on his website homepage: http://corvetterepair.com/

Just a bet, but I say there is not anything in the wiring harness that's not absolutly 100% necessary. As in each component wired individually with a common (and large enough for the combined load) power source and grounded as close as possible.

IIRC from my former ZR1, which was essentially the SB version of an L88, there really wasn't anything different about the factory wiring from standard models other than omissions such as no AC, no PW, no radio... Not sure how much, if any actual wiring was left out.

Wiring Help

Forum members,
Have any of you had one of the stock wiring harness reproduction makers make a bare bones factory harness minus all of the nonessential stuff. In non essential, I mean side marker lights, Heater, AC,radio, cigarette lighter etc. I am wanting a new harness but without any creature comforts and mess.
Thanks!

I decided to start with an American Autowire Highway 15 kit for my street legal retro racer project. I wasn't concerned with historical accuracy, but it is pretty bare bones. When finished, the ignition and starter switches will be on console toggles. I made my own rear light harness and electric fan harness. I took the ignition switch out of the column, but I did retain the column connector for turn signals and hazard switch. I'm using a stock GM headlight switch and dimmer. These items could easily be modified or deleted in a pure race car.

I worked on the #75 corvette at historic racing association events. It's wiring was completely hand done connection and fuse blocks. All the ends were crimp, soldered, and heat shrinked Ring or Fork U-type Terminals.

Some of the dash switches were toggles with individual screw capped lighted fuses.

Our race shop had a person that could just do beautiful work on restorations. color coded and label markers on everything

I got a picture of the 70, what else did you send? Sometimes my iPhone has moments and since iPhone 3s, nothing but problems.
