My e-brake cable is rubbing the rim on both sides, help.
 

I just got done replacing my transmission, A4 if you must ask or know, and after a closer inspection before I get the car off the jacks stands, the e-brake cable is rubbing the rim on both sides. I don't know if it's because the suspension is up in the air, or if it is normal? I have attached a couple of cell-phone night pics lol. Any type of help is welcome:thumbs:.

I don't have any experience with this but.........

Does the wheel and/or the cable have rub/wear marks on them?

If not, it must be because the suspension is hanging.

If they do, then you need to look into this more...... Just my 2 cents

There are no wear marks.

Zip Tie it - it looks like the tranny shop lost a cable retaining clip somewhere down the line! :yesnod:

Lowering it gets it closer too!

I did the transmission swap lol. I need to take a better look once I get off work today. Yes it is lowered to the max on factory bolts, and I hadn't tought of that. I will zip tie the cables more than likely.

Hi Franscisco.
The slotted clip that slips over the p/brake lug has an offset to it.
Was wondering if you rotated the slotted clip 180 degrees, if it might kick the cables out some?
Just a thought & I really don't know if the clip would even be able to rotate like that & be able to clip back on.

Thanks, and I don't think the clip can rotate either. I will be able to see a bit better with sun light today and figure out what happened.

Mine does the same thing. I used some zip ties and held it to the sway bar. Not tightly, but enough to hold it away from the wheel. There is plenty of slack to allow for movement. I used 3 long zip ties on each side. That way, if one fails, I have 2 more for backup :lol:

I have the same problem...just noticed it after putting on the rear wheels on. Had the cradle down while doing my clutch.

Never noticed before and no rub marks on cables. After some investigating, I see now that where the cable is attached to the cable-to-body mounting brackets show sign of movement. Must have pulled on the cables when lowering the cradle alone.


I opted to remove the ebrake/sensor bracket rather than the cable on its own like in Dops write up. So the bracket probably hung up on something when lowering cradle. Just slide the cable over and its good.

Here's a pic of the culprit. Hope this helps someone it the same situation.

7 years later those 3 zip ties are holding strong :rofl:

Mine are the same.. I could see where they "slipped" out a bit..
Just pulled them back to original location.. No more rub.
And i thought the same with the suspension Unloaded, but it
didn't change much when put down on the tires.
