07 z06 info

greeting everyone

I need help, i did searched for info in z06 years changes. I know there is most of the changes was done to 06 to 07 models, i have a good deal on a black 07 z06 2lz with nav and 23 000 kms/ 15 000 miles on the clock. Its bone stock except for a m2w switch and windows tint for around 42 000$ to 40 000$ cad which i thinks its a good deal. But here the thing, i was looking for a 08 and + models but i have this killer deal for a 07 models. Im trying to find it it worth 8 to 10 grands more to a 08 models, i know the interiour changes are the carbon fiber trims, i heard about a shorter shiter too, tranny gearing and somes changes here and there. I would really like your inputs to help me make a good decision.
btw: the z06 have comp grey wheels with the original bold run flat which i dont mind cuz im gonna change the wheels anyway.

no alternator issue or nothing?
I forgot to mention, i saw that the alternator was changed when the car had like 2000 miles on it and i read about some alternator issues and gm extented warranty on those is this true?

I have an 07. No problems.

Zoxxo 09-04-2011 03:36 PM

I have 5 years and 63,000 miles on my 07Z. Repairs have been water pumps (2) and the end links - all covered under warranty. That's it.

Does gm cover the clutch/slave under powertrain warranty?

I also have an 07 and I have had zero issues in the 10k miles I've owned it. The previous owner also had a trouble free 15k miles. Don't get nervous because people say "oh my god, the transmission will shatter because it won't. It's a T56, it will live forever.

07 z

I also have an '07 Z. 17,000 mi.,no problems. Sounds like a fair deal. Go for the 'O7

timmyZ06 09-04-2011 06:54 PM

So there isn't major difference between 07-08?

rapidroy 09-04-2011 07:24 PM

Here is a fair rundown of the changes:

To answer your original question, my best suggestion would be to at least drive an 08 and see if you feel enough difference to justify the price increase. I had a 2005 C6 and moved up to a 2008 Z06. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this but I almost enjoy the improved shifter feel more than the power, though I do like the sound and power of the engine - a LOT, and yes the POWER. If you like the feel of the 07 compared to an 08 or 09, then why waste your money - get the 07.

Good luck.

Major change for 08 was going to the T6060 transmission, which has a little shorter throw. The T6060 is known to have some 1-2 and 2-3 gear clash when it is cold but very nice when it warms up after 2-10 miles. If you are seeing an $8K lower price for the 07, sounds good. The 09's got a 10 1/2 quart dry sump system, which is significant if you do HPDE's.

thanks for all yours input,
the last thing that will be take in consideration is warranty all 07 are almost over which is a big deal for me. I just got out a high hp supra and im sick of deal with issues, so my next car will remain stock... at least for a while:thumbs:

LS9Drew 09-05-2011 01:17 AM

Which vin number range was it that had the rocker arm issue on 07s? I know I've seen it where ranger posted it but can't find it anymore

Joezone914 09-05-2011 01:23 AM

I have an 07 no major issues 40K miles.

08 and newer have the T6060 Tranny and more importantly the larger capacity oil tank if you are going to track the car.

Other than that 07 is a great car.

Turbooo2u 09-05-2011 01:36 AM

My 07' has a bunch of small issues adding up to the worst-built I've owned.:( Telescopic steering column broke...weird..CD changer broke, Oil pan gasket replaced. Now I have CEL codes that have blown all summer long that the dealer can't seem to fix so I've had to rely on my trusty 05' for Vette transportation.

HeyDanNiceShot 09-05-2011 02:04 AM

I have an '07 with almost 40k... buy an '08 for the nice interior, transmission, and peace of mind.

I haven't had any major issues, but if I had it to do over I would have spent a little more to sleep better.

PUNISHER Z06 09-05-2011 03:35 AM

I have an early model '07 Z06. No issues so far 30k miles. I currently have an LG G7X3 cam, LG 1-7/8 Pro LT headers, Pushrods, comp valve springs, Vararam Ram air intake, 160* T-stat, HP tuners program, and full exhaust.

I have more supporting mods done to the engine with that cam but basically I have daily driven that car for over a month now and it runs like stock even with this setup!! This just goes to show you that an absolute stock Z06 can be driven daily comfortably and problem free. If you plan on leaving it stock I would suggest having the Mild to Wild remote if it doesn't already have it or just unplug the fuse so you can hear that 427 full time.

Heres a vid of it with the stock exhaust with cam if you ever decide to cam that bad boy out. Just wanted to show you how cool the Mild-to-Mild switch is and it sure can get addicting to mess around with. People are highly fascinated with it as I am.

timmyZ06 09-05-2011 09:06 AM

nice car you got there, punisher z06
i didnt know 07 had rocker issues i thought it was only 06 models. The more i look at it i think ill pay more and buy the peace of mind. I just came across a 09 black 3lz with a 3000 miles and a gm major guard.
More expensive now, sure but probably less in long terms.

LS9Drew 09-05-2011 09:30 AM

It wasn't all 07's just the span of certain vins, I saw ranger post it before but I searched for 30mins last night and couldn't find it because I'm also looking at a 07 or 06 Z

Jan thru June 2007 builds are possibly affected by the rocker arm issues.

I installed a brand new GM set on my 6/07 build last month even though my rockers were fine. My car has 5400 miles on it..
