Drive Today - Horses of RCMP (pics)
 

One of the favourite attractions of our city (Capital of Canada) is the Musical Ride of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).

The weather this long weekend has not been the best (rain-wet) but this morning promised grey skies but no precipitation. So it was time to fire up the old 1974 and hit the road for a couple of hours. The Wife (in white) enjoys the Corvette and given her rural background we decided to visit the home of the horses of the Musical Ride. They are pampered with beautiful stables and a large field on which to graze and wander although I have no doubt they have special diets indoors! What beautiful creatures.

The 1974 hummed after a few mechanical problems this summer. I don't know how many times that 3-ton jack has been up! It was nice to have things sorted out, however. Drive these wonderful cars and enjoy despite some occasional setbacks. They are old, and cranky, but I have never been tempted by a newer generation.

It's funny that you would say that! A family of Japanese tourists had their cameras ready and clicking. I invited the kiddies to sit in the car for photos but there was a language barrier and a lot of shyness. But a lot of smiles.

I have seen the musical, RCMP ride, it is quite a show, have never been to the stables, it looks like you had a nice day Paul, thanks for the pics.

The horses are all black and work in unison. It's a treat to see these animals in ceremonial action but even more a treat to see them at leisure. Look at the one pic of a little boy feeding them grass by hand. They are so gentle.

Lots of horses in those pics! I once sold product to the RCMP! They are awesome!

That is called a Windjammer (see Corvette Central #103048). It is not particularly effective in the city but at highway speeds it is a blessing. The 1974 is my first Corvette convertible and when I first bought it I was very surprised at air turbulence at speed (OK, mine a minor 75mph). The air would rip your sunglasses off! That dam directs the air up and over the passenger cabin. The Wife is happy with it :yesnod:.

It's a little high in the back what with the installation of the VBP composite spring about 100 miles ago (and 8" bolts compared to stock 6"). I have not fooled with it yet until things have settled and I would guess they have by now. I have about 1 1/2" on the spring bolts to work with but quite frankly I may just leave it as is. The car looks fine to me with low-profile 235-60/15 tires.

I sometimes hesitate to post pics on mundane Corvetting but it's nice to see that some people appreciate the "Sunny Sunday Afternoon Drive" people who love the hobby. OK, it wasn't sunny but I drove. Not much time left to drive here in Canada so....Seven more weeks to winter storage for me.

I appreciate your comment. That car just hummed today, even with points and condenser ;). An old Chev V8 is a joy to drive. It helps to have a dwell/tachometer!

Well, storage time is the third week in October. Has been for many years.
