1999 ebcm
 

I need help guys. I am experiencing the dreaded ABS and traction control warning lights. I am finding tons of info on 2001-2004 models, but having a hard time finding info about my 1999. I believe the problem is a bad ground or connection, because it only happens when I hit a bump or pot hole while at cruising speed. I have braked hard on gravel, just to acitvate the ABS and it works fine, so that's why I believe the problem to be a bad connection. Does anyone have any pictures of where the EBCM is on my 99 and where it grounds to, that has caused people the most problems in the past? Any help is much appreciated.

In front of the engine on the left side. The module attaches to the pump assembly. It has a bunch of hydraulic lines running to it. And yeah, see if you have codes.

Definetly check first for codes, I have a 99 and am betting its a wheel sensor and the codes will tell you which one. Anyway, thats what it was on my 99 when the light show happens after a bump and the car looses ground traction.

The hydraulic lines run to the bpmv. The ebcm is bolted to the inboard side of the bpmv. There are six torx bolts holding it on.

I'll venture a guess that your steering wheel position sensor at the base of the steering column is going bad. I had this happen to my '99. The codes will tell the tale on this one.

Ok guys, I pulled my codes. It is showing:

Under TCS category

C1225-(LF excessive wheel speed variation)

Under RFA category

U1096-(Loss of communications with IPC)
U1064-(Loss of communications with BCM)
U1016-(Loss of communicaitons with PCM)

What do you guys think? maybe wheel speed sensor?

cleared all codes, and had it happen this morning, so the C1225 was the only current and active code.

dmarkshark, since you had the same problem, what was your fix? was it a bad connection at the wheel or what?

Yep, I took the wheel off, checked and cleaned the connection and that was it. I think if you just check and clean it and put it back on, and then see if it throws codes again. IF it does, you may need more than just a cleaning. IF it doesn't throw codes then you know that was it. Good luck, let us know how it turns out for you.
