Steering angle sensor model year differences?

Hey guys,

In an effort to fix my steering column (the tilt column pins fall out), I recently picked up a MY '10 column. My Z06 is an '07, and I swapped in the new(er) one tonight. The columns were identical and it bolted right in, but my first inkling there might be trouble was that the steering angle sensor (the one at the bottom of the column) was different. Both have 4 wires, but I had to swap in the new harness and use the new sensor -- no way to put the 07 sensor on the '10 column.

With everything installed, it all seems to work. Telescopic memory, all the turn signals, etc.

BUT: the service active handling light is on, and competitive mode isn't available. Am I out of luck? Is there a way to "reset" the EBCM and have it "relearn" the steering angle sensor?

Any other ideas?

thanks!!

jp

Anybody?

Another angle: can anybody with a '10 Helms manual identify the four wires going to the sensor? I could compare that to my 07 manual.

thanks!!!

2009-2012 use the same sensor. 2007-2008 use a different sensor.
09-12 part # is 25858802. 07-08 # is 15231656.

Cool, thanks for that. Anybody know if the function is different?

My 07 book tells me that SWS pin 1 is a 5v reference, pin 2 is Low reference, pin 5 is Signal A, and pin 6 is Signal B.

Any got a '10 book? I could check to see if the harness wires match.

Is there some sort "calibration" procedure I could try?

Here's the 07 schematic. Note that Signal A and B go directly to the EBCM. If the newer sensor is only packaged differently -- and the signals themselves are the same -- it should work.

You might try to connect the old sensor and see if the light resets. If that works, then the challenge would be adapting it to the new column.

I've thought about how I might do that, so yes, I'll see if that's possible. The difficulty is that the connector is different (though both have 4 pins). Worse than that, the column that the sensor inner race mounts on is different.

A schematic of the newer sensor would be very helpful.

Pulled the code: B0710 Steering position signal.

Just to complete this conversation with myself :), I pulled the 2010 column out and "rebuilt" the 07 column with the 2010 tilt mechanism. That put back the 2007 steering shaft and end bearing, letting me use the 07 SWS.

All now seems well. The DIC is silent, Competitive Mode is back, and hopefully, the pins won't fall out any more.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I was looking for advice on replacing the sensor, any tips or tricks? Does the column have to come out, if so where does it unbolt? Mine is a caged c6 so I'm going to have to remove the seat to have any chance of seeing up under the column.
