Edelbrock Choke Fast Idle

I have a Edelbrock 1411 that really runs great except for cold starts. The choke coil works fine. The problem is the fast idle cam . With full choke the cam is on the top step and about 1400-1500rpms. If you do not touch the throttle all is ok. Touch the throttle and while the choke plate stays partically closed until the coil heats up the cam falls off the top step and all the way off vs a step down to the next level of fast idle. Hence then it is curb idle which on a cold BB is not great.

Has anyone experienced this or have ideas of what might be done other than "get a Holley". Thanks.

did you look at the installation manual that comes with the carb? If you dont have it, it's on the Edelbrock web site.

Tried then manual like suggested. Problem you have with this carb is once the choke starts opening to a certain point the fast idle cam falls off the adjustment screw while the choke plate stays partially closed. If you adjust the choke coil far enought "rich" or for more tension you can delay the falloff, but it takes longer than necessary to warm up the choke coil and is dumping lots of raw gas into the engine. In all honesty the best cold weather choke system is the Rochester setup that opens slower and has decending fast idle notchs on the cam while it is warming up. But... at this point my Q-Jets are in pieces and the Edelbrock once warm runs great.

I believe your carb has an electric choke. Assuming there is no linkage problem, no freeplay in the rod that goes from the back of the choke housing to the choke blades, all you can do is gradually move the black choke cover one index mark at a time till you get the desired effect.
