'09 Nav Screen Trouble?

Last night I started my car and the navigation screen was completely blank although the radio was on. I pushed all of the function buttons with no luck. After about 20 minutes I pulled over, turned off the ignition and restarted the engine. The screen came to life as normal. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on.

It might mean there's a problem, might not....it happens sometimes. FYI, there is a TSB for '07-'09 Navs that might apply to yours. Here's a thread with info, the TSB is in post 3: :)

My 09 did it once when the car was about a year old. Did the same thing as you, shut the engine off, restarted and the NAV screen came on. Never did it again.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll monitor and if the problem continues I'll have to have the dealer reprogram it. I had been afraid the whole system needed replacement and it's 9 days out of warranty.

We had the problem several times on our 2009, always in cold weather. Dealer did the bulletin over a year ago, no problem since then.

Mine did the same thing last week. It was the first cold morning that I drove this car (2008 vert). Restarting did no good, opening the face did no good and turning the unit off and on didn't help.

As soon as the car warmed up a little the screen appeared.

It may have been coincidence that it was cold.

TSB - My 36/36K is gone since mine is a 2008 (in service 2007). Is the TSB service still covered or will I need to pay for it?

Gearhead Jim 11-18-2011 02:26 PM

My guess is that officially, you'd have to pay for yourself. A TSB is not the same as a recall, it's just info to help the tech solve a problem.

If you already have a good relationship with the dealer, and they haven't lost their free copy of the software update disc, they might be nice and do it free or at least pretty cheaply. Especially if you get something else done at the same time. But that idea only works if you can trust the dealer to do good work.

Thanks Jim. I have a really good relationship with my dealer so I'll ask what they will do for me.
