I agree it will be mustang shelby competition but unfortunately it will draw some corvette buyers away thus sales will continue to drop.
I looked at one a few months ago, one of the 2011 convertible pace cars, i could not believe how cheap the interior was and walked away. |
Sadly...it won't even be competition for the mustang let alone the Vette.

Out of the gate it's down 70hp and up around 400lbs vs the '13 GT500. |

It seems obvious that the ZL1 is intended to compete primarily with the GT500, just as the Camaro lineup is intended to compete primarily with the Mustang lineup. What that means for the Corvette is the real question. My guess is that GM is focused on differentiating the Corvette by making the C7 more of a low-priced supercar competitor than a Camaro/Mustang competitor. That is, the Corvette C7 seems likely (to me) to be designed and marketed more as a sports car than a muscle car. That may mean less power with more refinement. It will be interesting to see how that translates into features and pricing. |
Well there are two types of competition to consider…Sales and Performance.
Sales Competition, some who might buy a Vette will purchase one of these, but having been in the Camaro/Firebird Hobby for nearly 20 years….this car appeals to a very small demographic. Your hard core Camaro folks, who love the best bang for the buck HP view such a car a waste of money. For the cost diff between a 2SS and one of these cars, you mod a lot cheaper and end up with more HP for the dollar. Owning one of these cars to a Camaro Enthusiast is like being a check book mechanic…cool car, but not a lot of respect from the community. Don’t get me wrong…it’s an admired car, but when it comes to putting down the cash…a limited number (can) or will. Performance Competition….Straight line, sure…most Camaro owners are interested in ¼ mile times and not how many G’s can it take or Nürburgring times. Top of the line Corvette vs this car…no competition. This is the kind of car most who purchase will tuck away in a garage, bring out from time to time, and then park it back….with dreams of it bringing big bucks some day at B-J. The old adage, what is collectable isn’t and what isn’t is…look for these cars to enjoy big discounts by the end of 2012. I’m a GM guy, love Camaro’s, Firebirds and Vettes. I wish I could be more positive about this car :( Put the same engine in a 1SS or Base Camaro...then you would have something. |
