Can driving a vette cause hostility?

Ever get any derogatory comments or gestures? Or just compliments? Are people more hostile against younger vette owners because of their age? Just want to hear what you guys think? Just wondering.

My observations.
derogatory comments, because of their age? no, I dont think so.
Driving like a tool bag? thats more often the reason for others rage.

No, No, Yes, No.

Jimmy W1 12-11-2011 11:10 AM

Not so far. I have had people who want to race once in a while if I am in one of my cars. But no one has ever given me the finger. Most people just go GA-GA over it.

Sounds like your ready for a wide vs narrow body with auto or manual discussion? :hide:

Vette_DD 12-11-2011 11:22 AM

No, yes, and only when they emphasize their age.

Success brings hate.

Having style, smarts, $ makes 99% of sheeple hate.

Why?

>You are decisive, set goals, and made it happen.

>Dropping $50K on a car, separates you from broke masses.

>Oddly, Women can hate more....esp. >30.

>Buying a Vette in general is a pretty solid financial decision:

-hi resale
-liquid market
-good MPG
-low entry cost (relatively @ ~40K invoice)

Again the message is not the 4 wheels, but, what it says about others, that they have trouble confronting.

Same as promotion, hot GF, bank or nice house....people like being miserable.

Yesterday I parked next to another C-6 at the mall. When my girlfriend and I were leaving, the owner of the other Vette just happened to be leaving too... twice our age and pretended we weren't even next to them. I bet they were saying... We should have done this 30 years ago lol. It just felt awkward. On the highway I usually get the "Vette" wave as I pass one or get passed by one.

lastcowboy 12-11-2011 11:56 AM

you mean there are people under 80 that drive a vette !!! :D

JKbride 12-11-2011 11:57 AM

Most who hate the Corvette don't dislike the car, they dislike the fact they cannot or do not own one, don't like the driver....or both.:ack:

When I was in College in 1980, my girl friend's previous boy friend had a 79 Black Trans Am SE...I had a ragged out 73 Mercury Capri, with 140K miles on it. She loved TA's...and I found about 10 reason's why I hated them, but in truth it all came down to I could not afford one.

Funny, in 1996 I bought my first Firebird and have owned 4 since. Strange how I now love them, now that I can afford one :)....same can be said about Vette Haters.

Chevrolet Corvette-To love me is to own me :)

No. Usually. Beats me, but if it's true I'd guess it's due more to displays of immaturity than the car they drive. What do you think? Me too.

Many younger people drive like they don't respect other people on the road. They drive like "get out of my way, this is a CORVETTE!)

You get the same with a lot of older people in their Mercedes.

It only takes a few to create and reinforce stereotypes.

I don't think there is as much jealousy as many here would like to believe. The number of people who are "into" cars and are aware of what things cost is small, relatively speaking. Lots here, for some strange reason, wish people would be jealous.
