Stock ZR1 vs BPU GTR

ZR1 vs GTR:

Bone stock ZR1 vs BPU (Modded) GTR
Hit was from 35-140 mph just started to pull on the GTR around 130 and it was ever so slight....Very impressed with the GTR...not sure exact mods but know he had a custom tune 2012 trans software and boost increase and midpipe. My ZR1 was bone stock on DR's

simpleman68 12-12-2011 02:49 PM

That was a VERY modded GTR. Not that it would take much with an AWD FI car.
I see the stock ones with good drivers running in the low 11 sec range at 122mph normally.

Very close race and some serious power out of the Nissan.

Did he run traction control/AH etc. off?
Scott

yea that GTR traps around 130 in good air just a little less than me....not sure what settings he runs or uses. I am TC off AH on for my strip days.

Jim's GTR really is lightly modded. I had expected Kyle to pull away
from him as the speeds increased. Just to keep this in perspective,
this is a ZR1 on drag radials(even though a stock car) with one of
the best hot shoes driving. I would not want to meet Jim's GTR on
the street without some very serious firepower and a tire to back
it up. Great video!

Roll racing on the drag strip, I love it! :D

10.3s in a bone stock Corvette with only a rear tire swap.
I'm impressed. :yesnod:

FourG63 97GST 12-12-2011 08:17 PM

sounds about right, GTR creates it own physics somehow. it's probably making about 550whp, 3900 race weight but runs like it's from Ghana

With all the splits we compare....Do you have Jimmys slip for his best pass? I would love to see it side by side with both of my record passes. Try to find it and bring it by the office tomorrow or wed.

Lightly modded ?? 130+ traps ?? According to NAGTROC that kind of trap speed is more than lightly modded.

injectors ??
fuel pump ??
actuators ??
full O/R exhaust ??
full tune and maybe E85 ??
custom intake w/filter??
maybe Cobb intake ??
Any weight reduction ??

Agree that they are impressive cars....but lets compare apples to apples

like one of our fellow corvette forum bothers said....I got 99 problems but a GTR aint one !!

Kind of like this lightly modded ZR1.........
C6 Corvette ZR1 9 Second 1/4 Mile Pass 9.813 @ 145.74

This Lingenfelter ZR1 has the latest version of our supercharger upgrades including our pulley upgrade, overdrive balancer, air intake modifications, intercooler improvements and tuning. This was run with stock exhaust manifolds and factory cat back exhaust with Mild to Wild Switch.

Thanks.....

The normal "formula" don't work on GTRs
here's a local GTR for example, it's an 09 with 2010 "technology"
K&N drop in filters, mid pipes, tune on 93oct, stock wheels w/ run flats tires

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDoNO4C-uG8

now imagine a 2012, with todays technology :D

Well....by the looks of the pre '12 combos......well have a look for yourself.......http://nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?...mile-rankings/

Fyi....when you "upgrade" the exhaust and/or intake system the "boost" effectively drops, depending on how inefficient the system was from the factory. But power remains or increases, and if "boost" is brought back to "factory" levels then obviously the power is increasing...as long as the compressor map allows. What I'm alluding to is....they are effectivly turning up the "boost". And thats why I mentioned the ZR1 with a "boost" increase :D. And he's rowing gears....MANUALLY !!! No video game shifting.....haha.....

Thanks.......

I am a fan of the ZR1 over the GTR, but props due are props due. To
answer your questions:

injectors ??: Stock
fuel pump ??: Stock
actuators ??: Stock(need to look at injectors if you modify these)
full O/R exhaust ??: No, mid-pipe only.
full tune and maybe E85 ??: Tune, but no E-85, but looking into this possibility.
custom intake w/filter??: Aftermarket air intake.
maybe Cobb intake ??: Not sure, I will ask.
Any weight reduction ??: No, over 4000lbs with Jim's ~150 lbs inside.
As verified by scale at MIR.

The ZR1 is an animal and I would take one over the GTR any day due
to no manual tranny in the GTR. But many people would prefer the
shifting of the GTR. And even Kyle would not be able to stay with a
GTR on the street. Well maybe not, Kyles driving is not to be under
estimated.

Will do Kyle. Those splits should be interesting for sure.

Wayne is right this is a light modded GTR as it has mid pipe, cobb tune and 3" intakes thats it. At the rental last week 4015lbs with me in it. Jamie fermen ran 10.6 with his last week with tune and mid pipe. When march hits I hope Kyle does some mods so we can run when I have downpipes, inj, pumps and E85 it should be around 10.0-10.3 with a drag tire on the back and be at about 137-138 so maybe we will post some new stuff up next year. Wayne here is my best stock run with VDC on

1.78 60ft
4.86 330
7.14 1/8
95.50
11.52 119.75 on mar 23 2009 not sure on the da that day

My fastest run against Kyle on 10/7/11

VDC OFF Kyle
1.69 60ft 1.70
4.58 330 4.68
6.98 1/8 7.09
102.89 102.59
9.06 1000ft 9.15
10.82 10.88
127.86 mph 130.90

I just need some of that good air Klye finds!!
1.69 60ft

But keep in mind one thing...... That was only a marginal pass for me that day and it was your best pass.......that same day later on in worse conditions i ran a 10.72. I will admit i have become spoiled by rentals and have become awful at r/t to try to race another car.
And i am here on a vette fourm giving props to the GTR. Especially your GTR.... But you can have all the air you want thats raceable and your car as raced that day will not match my 10.33 imho.

Gottcha........so how are the wastegates controlled/adjusted ?? With a free flowing intake side and a upgraded exhaust (mid & down pipes), what were the diffential losses with the factory air box ?? What are you "turning" it up to, after the mods ?? What kind of differential psi ratings are you seeing after the mods (COP vs TIP) ?? Hows the pressure recovery on the DCT shifts ??
Very impressed...what kind of power (to the tires) before and after mods ??

I'm a huge fan of turbos....just wish it was not so damn hard to do on our cars. I've owned several turbo vehicles. Matter of fact my rock crawler is 2.4 teo4h on propane . And shes got plenty of power..even with 42's.

Thanks......

On factory/stock tires, you're likely correct.
But on drag radials he did just go 10.3s...even assuming that he'd slow down a bit without that rubbery track prep assisting him, I think he'd still have a VERY good shot at beating a stock Nissan GTR on the street as well, even a 2012 model.
A (properly) modified/tuned one is a different story of course but then again, bolt ons only ZR1s have gone 9s. :reddevil

I can assure you that on a non prepped surface ( obviously a private driveway:eek:) i have no issues with stock GTRs even with my stock tires. We are discussing a bpu moded one. I have never run a 2012 from a dig in my driveway:hide: but i better have the launch just perfect or im introuble in my own driveway:willy: launch control in the right setups is pretty amazing (not gm lc)

Agreed. I meant to specify a GTR modded like Jim's. I think Kyle
ran into a stock one in Mexico this summer and it was an ugly race. :)
