Isnt that the 1 that was stolen from the dealer, backed into some Chevrolet signs, hit a c5 on the way out, then abandoned 2 miles down the road?

I think it WILL be driven. I doubt a "Sheik" is buying the car as an investment but probably wants a brand new '78 to tool around kingdom. :D

Of the 6500 1978 Pace Cars that were manufactured, I would bet that half of them were puchased as an "investment" and squirreled away. You will be seeing very low mileage Pace Cars surfacing for a long time yet.

Initially, GM announced they would only produce 100 of those Pace Cars, and based on that people thought that everyone will die to get one in a year or two, but GM manufactured 6500 cars instead, and all of a sudden, almost everyone who canted a Pace Car just got it from a one of the 6500 dealers.

My friends grand father owner a Chevy dealer in the 70 and 80's. He said each dealer got 1. And he kept it for himself. Has about 30k on it now. I don't like how they made thAt same pace car color an option in the following year. Kind of takes the "ohh and ahhh" out of having a true pace car...

There used to be one in the NASCAR Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega, AL. It had like 93 miles on it and still had the plastic on the steering wheel. SInce it was stored in an environmentally controlled museum, it should be in much greater condition. The same owner had another one in there with about 90,000 miles on it. I remember he was from Hamilton, AL.

That guy bought 2. One to drive and one to store for a huge profit. I guess the huge profit on the stored one never surfaced, so I guess he took a huge tax write-off instead and donated obth of them to the museum.

A friend of mine has one in his car colleciton that has not been dealer prepped. He also bought an extra set of wheels/tires and a bunch of other Pace Car specific items for safe keeping and future use. He's one of those guys that can say, "I have one of those" after just about every car you mention. Most have never been driven, but some are just nice original cars in great shape. he calls this is "retirement". The last time I heard, he has 3 warehouses full of cars...

Wonder if the new owner has already had it washed, waxed, and detailed.

:D
