Front Air Dam

I have broken 3 left hand sections and one center sections in the last 18 months. Is there any replacement parts that anyone has heard of that are not so brittle and would last?....

Front Air Dam

Thanks. That was my next step. I guess no one is making a more pliable alternative.

My '90 Vert has been pulled up on a flat bed at least 6 times in the last year and I saw the cable pushing the air dam back at least 30 degrees with no damage. This with the original parts. I guess its the luck of the draw.

Next time your cars up on a lift, get a hold of a cut off wheel and cut away. i used 3/4 wide masking tape for a guide

Do you have the center support bracket on? After installing the bracket [avail. @ a dealership for about 20 bucks ] I pop riveted all 3 pieces together .Hope this helps.

SLow down, don't hit the curb as hard.

What year and do you have Z51?

On my '86 the Z51 air dam is 1" lower than the stock one.

that's pretty much what i did, only i use a couple of black plastic push-pins. no matter how careful i am, my air dams tend to take a beating anyway...

Drove Vert for 20 to 60 minutes...everything normal. Shut it off and could not restart. If you waited several hours it would start right up and run normally until it happened again. Towed it to several "experts" who could not find the problem...

Finally found a Vette savvy tech at a Chevy dealer far from home who found two injectors intermitantly failing when they got too hot ( soaking up the heat when shut off).

Unbelievable. One guy even wanted to sell me a rebuilt engine.I was going to get rid of it as a junker but thankfully persevered.

^^^this. I replaced mine when I bought because it was scratched a little and my OCD would not allow that. Since then, I have put a couple black screws on each side connecting the end pieces to the center and have managed to not hit a curb or a park stop in the past 8 years with it.

In answer to your actual question ..........no. GM no longer makes the parts and all of the ones that I have looked at from the major parts suppliers are made of a different ... much more brittle material.

However let me qualify that statement by saying that I've been looking at ones for the 92 - 96 cars. The earlier ones may indeed still be available in the more flexable material.
