LS swap

Here's just another one for the board. Project has been sitting for a while and its time to get started getting the old out. Still have parts to buy but lots of labor that I can be doing. Got it on jack stands to start junking it out. Took most of the accessories off the motor. Trying to decide to cam or not to cam. Still sending it to be freshed up with good bolts and such.

Look into the "Mamo" cam.

Cam it more power is always better

cv67 02-06-2012 10:54 AM

mamo cam works real well.

You can get a low mile 03-04 Z06 cam off ebay for about 100-150 that will pick it up some too.
Doesnt take much cam at all to really wake those up!

Are you still planning on the turbocharger?

Is that an LY6 ? Are you keeping the VVT or going old school? There's a growing collection over on the General Discussion forum:

Just letting every one kno, its not going to look like GM installed it. The thread where I built most of it on the table is just mock up. Stock looking ls just doesn't fit this car. Plain and simple.

Yes keeping the AC. I'm to old not to have it. The acc are a combination of our Billet setup and a few pieces I had to make along the way. Only thing I don't plan to have is cruise.

Did get some done Sat, not as much as I would have liked. Never enough time one the day. Few more bolts and it clean up time.

Just to let everyone know, this swap will not be the fastest swap done. One reason is I have a lil helper that wants to be involved. So I got a 9 yr old taking out a engine & trans. I loosen some nuts and bolts before he takes parts out.

Kyle..that got me to thinking why I'm into cars so much. I didn't have a answer as to what sparked it for me. I do know it was at a early age. I'm the only gear head in the family or black sheep. My dad was a chemical engineer and made rocket propellant. So I ask my dad...some where around 73-4 dad was driving us around and come upon a truck with a race car on a trailer with a flat tire. He gave them his spare and I got to sit on the race car. Dad said that's when it started...he said all I did after that was sound like a car.lol Flash forward 25 yrs and I find myself jumping off a wall in front of a race car changing front tires. 9 yrs ago I gave up that life to spend time with my son. I see in him the spark I have about cars but never had any one to teach me when I was young. And the race car I got to sit in was a guy I meet many times in the past yrs and didn't know it until yesterday. Such a small world.

I had it made, its in one of the threads somewhere. The booster give me more room for the hot pipes.

Kubs 04-07-2012 07:34 PM

Can you post a little more detail on the booster install? The C6 one is metal correct? I may be interested in this mod if it isnt too much more work for myself.

There are 2 dimples at the top after you remove the booster. Drill those out an the top is mounted. Measure down and 2 more holes to drill. You will need a backing plate for the lowers. That's as far as I got. The support will more than likely need to be notched. I'll have more when I get future.

Gonna try a new rack out while I'm in there.

Been following this thread with interest. Got your note on the "other side" & figured I'd return the favor. It's great you've been able to get your son involved. I showed my youngest how to change a tire this morning, but that's not quite the same thing, eh?

I don't get to spend much time on forums as I work all the time. Was just scrolling thru and remember your SN and checked it out. There is so much going on in the forums its hard to keep up with it, and now days with ppl dropping the kind of money on builds, you have to stand out in different ways. As far as getting lil man involved ....the only reason it's out is because of him.

Dude! what alternator bracket is that or did you fab it from scratch? My only remaining headache is accessory mounting. I'm stuck between 3 options, the best one is using the KRC pump I already have but it mounts where the y-car alternator would go...

What is wrong with red? (I do have an LT4. So, I guess I kinda like red!)

Just wondering.

Certain look I'm going for....the covers are fixing to go thru a change to match the outside of the car along with the engine bay. Done most of the lines to the turbo and such. Still like the oil inlet on top. Get it fitting and order the parts I want. Sometimes I can get to picky. The lines and fittings I wanted to use was way out of my budget at a cost of 1K for 6 lines

Well I had a bright idea ..........so I'm just going to stick to working on cars. Haven't had time to fix the links. Wait till I'm done with the covers ...having some laser work done.

You really should market those hoods. If you can produce them at a decent cost I'd think you'd sell a ton.

Don't know if the hood could be done at a low enough cost but that is the best looking hood I've ever seen on a C4. Wish I had the know how to do that.

I did talk to the guy that is reproducing stock hoods. He told me that no one would want a hood like that. I ask him how many stock hoods he sold.... 1 was his answer. Showed him a couple of threads, he said he wouldn't waste his time. One year later....same guy...same show in Florida and still only sold one.

Can't believe the guy said that. I know some guys wouldn't want that hood because they want to retain the stock look of their car. On the other hand many others like myself want to change the look of their car and thats why the aftermarket is so big. To bad that guy was short sighted and missed the opportunity to grow his business.

For the sake of discussion here, how much would you charge to modify a hood like that?
