Tall Racers, Chime In

Hey guys, Im looking for a good racing seat that can hold a big guy like me. Im 6'6 with a 40in waist. Someone recommended the Corbeau Forza II seats but I was wondering what some of you taller racers are using. And if you do use the Forza's, how do they feel, pics? I just want something that will hold my butt in place on those hard corners and wont kill my back on a sunday drive. Thnx.

These are the Corbeau Forza

+1

I have driven cars with Corba Suzukas, and Sparco Evos. The larger versions of those seats are all pretty nice (Suzuka GT and Evo L or XL). I think you can get some of them with more angle on the back to help as well.

I'm 6'3 and about a 38 and I went with the Racetech 4009W. It's comfortable and holds me well. Also it has a fairly thick seat cushion so if you do find that you need more head room, you can remove it and gain probably about 3-4 inches or just have a thinner one made by any upholstery shop. I'm having them installed now with MTI Racing mounting brackets without sliders which allows you to get them just about on the floor.

Yeah, with my helmet my butt has to be like half way down the seat. The harness helps but i still slide a bit. Gonna look into those Racetechs too.

So no one has tried the Corbeau Forza's?

<------- 6'4" 240 38" waist

Custom fit Ultrashield Pro Roadrace on Hardbar rails as low as it can go.

the Recaro spg xl fits me great and I am 6'4" 280 , they question is will it fit into the C5 car, no one can answer me that

Also keep in mind that Ultrasheild will build one custom to your specs for only like $100 bucks more than the off the shelf models. That's what I did. I'm 6'3" with a 44" waist and I fit perfectly.

I got mine from Ron at Discovery Parts. It took about 2-3 weeks from the time I ordered the custom seat. IMHO for only a small amount of extra money it's a no-brainer.

I cut out the floor, and moved everything down 1,1/2 inches..kirky aluminum seat .

not enough room with an after market seat otherwise,

Recaro also make pretty low seats

My car is still mostly a street car though. How are those seats comfort wise for prolonged periods of time? Do they offer extra cushioning for non track driving? Thnx.

travisnd 02-07-2012 09:38 AM

There are no good options for dual purpose seats. What works on track doesn't really work on the street and what's manageable on the street doesn't perform on the track. Best option is to get a proper fitting race seat on Hardbar seat rails and swap it in for track weekends.

Compromises always suck.

We all fight that fight, and we all come to the same conclusion, eventually.

^^
Thats true. I guess theres no real in between that will satisfy both track and street duties to the fullest. Thanks for all the opinions and recommendations. I think also I should see if I can sit in a couple peoples cars at the next track day to get a feel for different seats. I will be sure to post up what I end up with and how it performs. Thanks again guys.

i'm not that tall, 6'1" but i guess i have a long torso. The harness openings on the back of the seat seems to be too low in most of the recaros and sparcos that I tried.
But the sparco EVO 2 + (or evo 2 plus) is made for taller drivers and those openings were perfect for me.

That's the big issue I had as well... I'm a few inches taller than you so my shoulders covered the openings on the Evo 2+ as well. That's why I went custom Ultrashield. Plus the custom Ultrashield was $540 to my door vs. $700+ for the Sparco stuff.

Thats a good price especially considering that $100 is towards having it custom fit. Do they have options with the cushioning or padding, where maybe you can add more or less padding?

travisnd 02-07-2012 12:12 PM

You could easily add more padding. Not sure if they have "options" per se.

C5Natie 02-07-2012 02:18 PM

I meant if they sold covers for that seat with various levels of padding.
