early vs late sway bar differences?

Yesterday I found a 30mm front sway bar that I can get for a very good price, but it's on an 85. Depending on who I check with I'm told that it will fit my 91, where others say it won't.

What is the definitive answer from those who have tried or know?

I was able to pull the bar from the 85 and hold it up to a bar from a 91. The later bar ends are about 3" wider than the early bar. Now we know.

And knowing is half the battle :-)

84-87 Front suspension has positive scrub radius and different setup. 88-96 was modified to use zero scrub radius for better ABS actuation on split co-efficient surfaces. Think pavement on one side, gravel on the other. So parts from early C4's do NOT fit the later ones at all for front suspension components.

84-96 rear suspension was unchanged.

Now you know the WHY.

With pulling the bar off my 91 is there something inches that might describe this like the late bar is XX inches wide where the links bolt on and an early bar is XX where the links bolt on? Possibly reference it as an overall width. I rather carry a stanley tape than a sway bar to measure things.

Good point. I may go back to that yard tomorrow to poke around. If I do I'll take along a take measure and get that for you.
