Roof Rattle fixed...simple.

I've had the rattling roof for the last few months on rough roads. I was going to try the lube and c-clips thing on the latch but I had a set of O-rings in my garage so I figured I'd give that a try first. Just stuck a 5/16 O-ring (the little one in the picture) on each of the front pins and the rattling is completely gone.

Very clever, I will have to give that a try

I put shrink tubing on mine and haven't heard anything since. Good move.

I have some of them in the tool box. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I put rubber o-rings on the front and back posts on my '08 coupe 3 years ago. Not a sound from the roof since then.

Confused? Front pins?

Yes, the front pins. The larger O-ring should already be there from the factory. I added the smaller one and fixed the rattling.

This helped mine, but not 100%. GM customer service told me GFY.

Tried this fix tonight and it seemed to reduce the creaking by about 70%. I'll look at tightening up the rear latch next. I have already switched out the latches to the newer version on my 08. I'm determined to solve this problem yet.

You might also try shimming by the front latch. That is what worked on mine. Not a peep out of it since:thumbs:

I did the lube thing, the o-ring thing, the e-clip thing, tightening the posts thing - and all worked for a while. I finally gave up, bought the new style latches - zero noise..... '07 with 102,000 miles....

What I did with mine was install ford type injectors o rings which actually fit perfectly where the old rings were. Now these are a little thicker. I also tightened the rear latch 1 full turn and the rattles are gone.

Anyone have any ideas on stopping the incessant squeaking when the roof is stored in the back?

Put some velcro on notches to give it some padding when the top fits in. I put about 3 stacks on top of each other and it fixed it. It doesn't look all that pretty whne the top is out, but it works great.
