"Corvette Fever" from Road&Track!
http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/car/corvette-fever
After all those bashing brainless articles from Motortrend, this was obviously more entertaining. It's also nice to learn about what C6.R can do compared to the production vehicles. I can't wait for the first track day of the season with my new '12 GS Coupe ;) |
Thanks for the link.

You're welcome!
The summary video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=o7Qw_cV2VUk And the ZR1 PTM system modes vs. race car driver (Milner): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=e9RVZkjZkek |
Good read

Pretty much puts to rest the whole 'base is equal to a GS around a racetrack' nonsense, and validates my claim that the GS is about half way between a base and a Z06 when talking closed course performance. The comments sound pretty impressed with the GS as well.
The numbers back me up, so you GS haters can go pound sand! What surprised me was how the Z06 beat the ZR1. |
Oh and before all you whiners say its because the GS has better tires than the base, well the Z06 and ZR1 are basically wearing cut racing slicks. It would be nice to see how much closer the GS could get to their times if it was wearing them as well.

Wow, thanks for the links on the article and the video. Enjoyed both. Nice props to all levels of Corvette. Something sweet for every one. Would like to comment more but I have got to get the beast out of the garage for a drive.

You have to take into account the fact that their base model used in the comparison was a convertible with less torsional rigidity than a coupe. The difference may not be significant, but it would have been better had they used a coupe.
You guys are just going to have to face it, the fatter tires, track suspension and bigger brakes make it a better track car. Its not 'just for looks'. |
I'll get to the article in a minute....thanks for sharing the link! I don't think there's any question the GS has a slight edge over the base C6. I've run against some modified GS's and they're formidable track cars. Any model can be modified to be fast but just from the comments it seems the factory stock versions line-up as they should.
As far as the Corvette Racing C6.R goes there's no comparison between a heavy, production, street car and a purpose-built track car. I vastly preferred the 7.0 liter GT1 C6.R (weighing 2580 lbs) but I could make the adjustment to the GT2 version. ;) Thanks again for the link! |
An excellent article, finally explaining what a great car any current Corvette is.
Two quibbles: Too bad they didn't throw a 2009 Z51 into the mix. I know that's not practical because you can't buy that car now, but it would have made an interesting comparison with the GS. A little less grip because of the smaller tires, but also ~120 lbs less weight. Note to GS haters: both are great cars, don't get your panties in a knot. Also, it would have been nice to test some more modestly equipped cars. Most people buy option packages $5k-$10k less than what was tested, not to mention the ~$10k discounts off of sticker price currently available. |
Ozer, thanks for sharing the article.Wish I could get out with you on the next track day. When is a good time to get together?

My R&T just arrived in the mail this morning. This article is all over the front cover. Useful and informative write-up, pretty much nails it.

Sweet!!!

Good stuff, thanks!

I love this comparison:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/var/ezfl...tain_track.jpg I think it does a lot to show what the sum of the parts will really do. |
Interesting test and be it as it may, but I am happy with the $39,000 I spent in 07 on my 08 1LT LS3.
Now if I had the extra $$ I would go for the Z06 after reading this test. But this would only fulfill my desire for a 427 Corvette. In reality my 08 is more car than I can handle on the streets anyway. |
...safe to subscribe to R&T again...
