 Thank you, no need to remove the console, this sits right on top of the existing console base, install takes less than 10 seconds :D

So you apply it over the existing OEM console felt? Any test numbers or results that show the average temperature drop? I can melt a candy bar in my current console with a 10 minute drive.

That is correct. I do not have any numbers for the C5 insulator yet however we expect the results to be the same as our C6 insulator which in real world tests have shown a reduction in the inside temperature of the console of 20-25 degrees for an improvement of 15-20%

Any chance of making one for the glove box? I plug my phone into a usb cord that is located there and man, does it get hot. My owners manual almost melts to the sleeve it's in too.

I measured and cut a section of the waffle-like tool drawer lining and placed that in my glovebox. It acts as a barrier between the owners manual pleather folder (which also carries my insurance card and registration) as well as my iPod Touch which plugs into my USB cord to the DD head unit. It doesn't really help with the heat, however it does help in keeping the pleather folder from sticking.

Interesting, I do not remember my C5 getting that warm in the glove box, are you folks running stock?

Great idea, just placed my order!

mre1974 04-03-2012 01:41 PM

I have had mine installed for a few days now and I can say that I have noticed a decrease in the arm rest temperatures for sure. I ran a connector cable from my aftermarket head unit arm rest storage area. Before the insulator was in place the bottom of my Ipod would always get very warm to the touch as would other items in the storage bin. After installing the insulator and driving with it in place for the past few days I can say that the items stored in there are significantly cooler to the touch and so it the arm rest itself. For me it was a worthwhile $20 investment.

You open the console, remove all your personal items such as loose change and cd's etc, take the insulator ind push it down into place, it's as simple as that

TNX ZORA 04-24-2012 10:57 PM

If you put the average electronic device in an enclosed area you're going to get noticeable heat build up. I doubt if the glove box gets much heat from the engine. Mostly would be a function of device heat itself and sunlight, engine heat last.

Added to next month's car budget. This would help keep my iPod a lot cooler than it currently is even after only a few minutes; my USB connection comes out inside the console.

I put this in my coupe not too long ago, and i can testify to the effectiveness. While driving around Sunday at about 85-90 degrees and sunny. When i opened the center console it was not even warm, whereas before the insulator,it would be hot as well as anything residing in there. Great product. Ken

I installed mine on Friday afternoon. After driving around on Saturday I checked my iPod to see how well the insulator was working and the temp was double digits lower. Usually it gets so hot that I can barely hold it, but now it's staying plenty cool enough.

I have "read" this goes inside the console and that it goes under the console. Less than 10 seconds install would indicate inside the console. It looks way too big to go inside the console. INside the console would seem inappropriate. Please clarify. My 2001 already has a nice thick insulator under the console. I assumed it was original but have not looked at my parts CD yet.

It simply goes inside the console. Open the console, remove any items such as loose change, cd's, sun glassed etc etc, install console insulator foil side down by pressing into place, it's a snug fit, very simple

Read his post #3: I have had mine installed for a few days now and I can say that I have noticed a decrease in the arm rest temperatures for sure.

Here's another pic of the insulator installed in the center console of my 2000 coupe. I bought one of these because I was having a problem with my iPod overheating during regular driving. After making a 1000 mile trip to Arizona in 105+ temps my iPod didn't overheat once, so this product definitely works as advertised and does a great job of cooling down an area that otherwise gets extremely hot.

I want to add some additional praise to this product. Thanks to the insulator I was able to run my iPod continuously from Dallas, TX to Phoenix, AZ and back again without it overheating once. Prior to installing this product a drive like that would have had the iPod overheating in less than 100 miles. I was very impressed at how well it worked to keep the music going under a constant barrage of heat. For the price you can't beat the quality of its protection.
