paint advice

so I just bought my car a few weeks ago

and I got a decent price because it had been keyed and the parts that got keyed got repainted. WELL.... they don't match

The car dealer is paying for the painter to fix it because its the slightest shade off when the sun hits them

the part of the rear bumper, the hatch, the door and the hood are the parts repainted.

they match but in bright sunlight you can tell

the dealer offered to make it right until I am satisfied.

should I just let him try again? or pay some out of pocket for a nice new paintjob on the entire car?

I am nervous because I am afraid it wont match but I really don't want to spend 2k more out of my pocket

I will say the painter did a flawless job and it has no orange peel but the shade needs to match

it matches but at certain angles it looks gray

I am told black is easy to match and I havent painted a car in 5 years

Looks like Nave Blue Metallic-Very hard color to get perfect in every light no matter how you blend it.

I they are willing to repaint the entire car, that would be the way to go. If not, I don't know if I would try and just paint that many panels without blending in the other panels. Might be worth the money to just get it all redone.

jdub2k5 03-10-2012 07:04 PM

its black, sorry should have stated that

I was gonna have them blend the panels this time if they don't do the whole car

Mr.Bill 03-10-2012 07:39 PM

From someone that had a few pannels blended, You will always be able to tell it had been repainted, If I was going through this again I would paint the whole car, I hope you got a really good price on the car, As a matter of fact I am still thinking of having my whole car painted so it matches 100%. OK isn't good enough...

exactly my thoughts bill

I got it for like 21 with 28k miles

new tires only mod was a b&b header back, xpipe, B&B bullets

for some reason this was the vette that called out for me... it said help me

not a steal but I am happy(once paint is done)

Black is a super easy color to match and in the repair industry an insurance company typically won't pay to blend into other panels because of this reason. One of the few colors that can successfully be panel painted.

Give them another go, I'm sure it will look great. I take it the first time it was repaired/painted it was just a "used car that got keyed", maybe even given to a newer paint technician. Now it is a "this guy just bought it and isn't happy" and i'm sure it will be given the extra care and skill required to get it right.

thanks for your responses guys my father called me this morning and was telling me I should talk about trading it back into them and paying the difference on an 05 1lt

but I love this car and have like 1500 in parts sitting at home waiting to be put on

not to mention a 1500 dollar radio setup from doubled

I really love this car, (I wouldnt mind a loaded c6) but I love my car so much

The 05 was the first year C6 and it has a lot of issues.

Certain colors are harder than others to match. Black is not one of them. A good shop will take a shot of the orginal paint and mix the new stuff to match exactly. I have had that done for my white Corvette and they did a good job. White is (believe it or not) a very hard color to match. I would let them try again. They should be able to get the job done.

jdub2k5 03-11-2012 05:39 PM

I would love very much to keep my awesome car, I am happy with everything else on it...I love it

I am glad to hear I can match it.

Cybermind 03-11-2012 06:28 PM

It was always my understanding that black was the hardest color to match properly. Hmmmm, I guess I learnt something new.

jdub2k5 03-11-2012 06:33 PM

I was always told is was easiest...whites the hardest because they have so many shades

Bakerking31 03-11-2012 06:49 PM

Let them retry it.

White is really the hardest to match, specifically Toyota's white is very yard because its got a lot of blue in it as well as a few traces of other colors to make it pop

Tim01Coupe 03-11-2012 09:01 PM

I am wondering if the black is easy to match, but does 10 year old clear coat fade or yellow, making it tough to match? I have a 2001 with a fresh new deep gouge on the rear quarter thanks to debris on the Ohio Turnpike, so the answer to the original poster's issue will be a 2-fer for me!

jdub2k5 03-11-2012 09:03 PM

what did I tell you about hotrodding around I80

sainthinds 03-11-2012 09:09 PM

they probablly used a different type of paint like a 1 stage or the clear coat is not as thick.

jdub2k5 03-11-2012 09:12 PM

see I thought that might be the case myself

base coat then clear coat

maybe he used a single stage

sainthinds 03-11-2012 09:30 PM

my 02 electron blue had 1 stage on the ft bumperr and one headlight cover and left side fender it was the same way. not real noticeable unless you were in the right light so i eventually had the whole car painted.
