GREAT! Cause I really need help!

Sure glad the tuning police aren't going to be there;
Cause I'll be running mine just the way I do, every day, as a 'daily driver'.

You can select it. When you put the code in it will show your total as $110

There wont be any problems. The organizer (Joel) has a link to this thread and okayed the discount.

Ready for me to add you to the drivers list

I'll try again tomorrow...it gave a discount but still charged for the timing so I didn't continue...:toetap::toetap:

Are you saying that you put in the "willow24" code and the total was more than $110 ????

If so something is wrong. Are you sure you didn't rent a helmet or anything else??

Just sign up without clicking the timing option if necessary. You WILL get timing for free.

PM me tomorrow if you still have problems and I will get Joel to take care of it for you

DH, didn't check out the video yet but will spend some good time watching it before I arrive. I've found these to be a good way the get up to speed in 5 laps or so and do look forward to some "following" laps early on. Usually the videos are good enough to give a great sense of line and to raise a few questions on "why" that line was used. Some times it has to do with camber/rises/dips and some times just not really the correct or best line for a particular car, but it means I can arrive with a list of questions in my mind on what to check out.

Dave

As expected that is exactly correct. The 5-6 turn is usually done differently for the high HP vs small momemtum cars. I can post a link some of my video if you want to see how another JSB Z06 does it :D

DH

Dirty Howie 04-05-2012 10:04 AM

Sallen619 reported a small glitch on the registration page that resulted in an incorrect total fee. This has been corrected. If you were having problems please try again.

Total for the event including timing should be $110

Thanks for posting this as it helps explain some of what is going on with the track surface and camber issues and gives good reference points to look for. I hope most of those reference points and paint marks are still there.

Here's a 1:29 run stock on stock tires before the track was resurfaced:

Nice... if I make it out there we'll have to meet up. I'm shooting for the high 1:20's myself (but a 1:26 sounds a bit too much for me), but I haven't been out there is so long I just don't know. I'm running 1:44 ACS, 1.54 at Buttonwillow (#13), and 1.54 at Chuckwalla CW (until I beached my car). Hope to see you out there!

They re-surfaced WSIR a year ago, if you haven't run the track in a while you'll get 1-1.5 seconds better times just from the re-surfacing. ACS is that Fontana and the Roval?

With those times at the other tracks you won't have any trouble running sub 1:30 at WSIR. I predict 1:27 unless it is nasty hot and/or windy.

Nate, I just checked your mods. Do you have a C6Z with auto conversion and a Yank :willy::willy::willy:

My C5 had a 416 and Yank and was awesome at WSIR.

Hope you join us, would love to see your car run

Lol, nope its still a lil ol 346 but with a lil extra juice. Its a built 4L65E with a Yank SS 3600. Good thing is I can treat it like a clutch-less manual, hold any gear and shift it manually if I like. Its done great in the canyons but Ive never been on an actuall road course. Looking forward to some good instruction too from the veterans. Got some new Michelins all around too so I wanna put them to the test.

C5Natie 04-10-2012 01:35 AM

Btw they wont say anything if I keep a container of E85 in the pits will they? Rosamond is pretty far from La Verne so Im sure I'll need to take some extra fuel to mix it with 91.

Yes running like a clutchless stick works good at WSIR. There are only a couple of places you actually have to shift on this track.

You can bring any fuel you want.

Sounds like you are getting serious ........... let us know when you register

C5Natie 04-10-2012 07:03 PM

Yeah i was looking at some videos and it almost seems i can stay in 3rd for most of the track.
The car is not too too serious but at 12:1cr i use a e85 mix to avoid detonation.

Steve

It actually depends on which run group you are in, what time the day starts and the promoting organization.

I would say 5:00PM at the latest, probably well before that. And believe it or not, not everyone can do all the track time available as tracking can drain you :willy:

I'll warm up the week before with two 2-hour stints in a 12 hour race in NJ, but am looking forward to meeting so many Forum members and getting to run WSIR for the first time.

Does anyone have a recommendation for hotels near there as I'll be doing the 7 hour drive over from AZ on Friday?

Check out the Palmdale/Lancaster area. Its close to the track and at least theres places to eat and shop around there. I know theres a few decent hotels off of Palmdale Blvd. There aint much passed that.

Dave

Here is the place Speed Ventures (Corvette Challenge) uses. Not sure if they will honor this rate as its not a date SV is running WSIR but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

LODGING: Our new host hotel is the Palmdale Hotel, located at 300 West Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale, CA 93551. The Palmdale Hotel is a VERY nice hotel and a big step up from the standard lodgings we've become accostomed to. It has a nice pool and hot tub area and a fitness room. The Speed Ventures deal is great: $69/night (1-2 people) or $138/night for a 2-room suite. Included in your price are 2 drink coupons for the bar and a full breakfast! Reservations must be made over the phone (661) 273-1200. Please state that you are with Speed Ventures to get the discount! (note: this hotel is 4 minutes further drive than our prior host hotel, so only small sacrifice for a much better deal).

This sounds a lot better than the 4 motels in Rosamond. Thanks, I'l check it out. Does everyone else drive over on Saturday morning?

To all of my Corvette brothers, Have a great and safe time at WSIR this weekend.

The American Race Day Video crew will be at Buttonwillow Raceway with Speed Ventures this weekend. We will soon have a second video crew trained and ready so that we can be at more than just one race track on the weekend. The new crew members are Jeffrey, Kevin and Conner so look for them in their cool red and black American Race Day Video shirts.

I'll see you at the track soon,

I'd like to know this also...

What is the best route from SD...I15 or the I5?

I think you fastest route may be the 15N all the way up to the 138 just north of the 210. The 138 will cut across and connect you to the 14 via Palmdale Blvd.

C5Natie 04-14-2012 11:26 PM

Alright guys, Im officially signed up now. Feels like this will be the beginning of a vice. Lol

Thnx Howie. Actually its a bit quicker time wise for me to take the 210 all the way to the 14, where it meets the 5. I used to work in Lancaster and that was my route. La Verne is kind of in the middle. Itll take me about 2hrs to get to the track.

Thats not bad. Its 90 minutes for me at 75-80 mph :D

You got a helmet right? Any track experience at all? Watch the videos in this thread so you will have a mental image of what to expect.

Forgot to ask, I currently have DOT4 synthetic brake fluid in the car right now. Will that be up to the task or should I upgrade to racing fluid? I have stock calipers with ss lines, heavy duty blank rotors and Hawk HP+ pads.

NO !!!!!!

Just checked with Joel as I remembered that each track and promoting organization has different rules.

You must be an instructor to have a passenger. So you will not be able to give others a ride. You can have an instructor (and I think it may be mandatory for first couple of sessions, you should check with ExtremeSpeed) drive with you. And you can be a passenger with an instructor driving.

I know Dave is an instructor. And I will be allowed to instruct. I may be able to get others with lots of track experience like Rob if he signs up to also instruct.

So you and the other beginners will get lots of help

We (instructors) can give any friends you bring a ride :yesnod:
