Brake Squeak
Brought a 05 Corvette off of a guy a month ago. Breaks have a loud squeak, he told me he put in new pads. Still stops on a dime. Hear the squeak when you are lightly on the breaks to moderate, if you push harder when you here the squeak, squeak goes away. Primarily only hear it from the rear brakes. They have stock dill and slotted rotors, up front our non drill and slotted.
Any thoughts on what it may be? Ryan |
Mine does the exact same thing and I switched to hawk ceramics. I've tried bedding them in more than once but the squeak always returns.

i have the same issue with my 05 z51 with 24k on it. there is another post on here that says to change the pads this is from corvettepartsbob another forum member if you search the below thread C6 Z51 Brake Squeal/groan Fix! on google you can read through what he and others had to say... that said i have not addrresed this issue yet but if you find something that works for you let me know, cause it kinda makes me nuts
C6 Z51 Brake Squeal/groan Fix! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a new bulletin just released for this problem. GM has plenty of the rear pads in stock, but very limited supply of the front pads inbound from the mfg. GM Parts was not aware of this bulletin and I passed it on to a supervisor and advised them they better get a bunch of fronts on hand asap. If you are having this problem notify your dealer and give them this bulletin # so they can order you new brakes. Remember this is not a recall, but just the information for a dealer to do a repair under factory warranty. Bob Document ID# 1682443 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brake Squeal on Vehicles Equipped with Z51 Package - keywords disc front groan noise pad rear squeak #PIC3320A - (Jul 8, 2005) Brake Squeal On Vehicles Equipped With Z51 Package 2005 Chevrolet Corvette With (RPO Z51) The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern: Some customers may comment that when they apply the brakes, the vehicle exhibits a squeal noise. This squeal noise is heard coming from the front or rear of the vehicle. Vehicles produced with the Z51 sport package are equipped with larger rotors and harder pads. Recommendation/Instructions: Replace both the front and rear brake pads with the part numbers listed below. Both front and rear pads need to be replaced due to the difference in composition of the brake lining material. The existing rotors should be used and it is not necessary to machine the rotors. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. When was that released?
|
That must be an early release. I had my pads replaced under it in early 2006 and they never squealed again (and put out almost no dust). But I'm positive they stopped doing the replacement for free. But even paying for it the switch is worth it. Remember, though, the new pads are slightly less efficient.

I got on parts taxi, and looked these numbers up and they say these pads fit the brakes that are non H/D. I would think Z51 would be heavy duty brakes??? I am going to buy a set of these if im sure they are for
Z51. anyone know??? 19152862 89026853 Thanks Kevin |
Put some Permatex anti-squeal on not only the back of the pad holder, but also between the metal holder and the actual pad itself. So, when you're done it'll be pad -> anti-squeal -> metal pad holder -> anti-squeal -> caliper or piston.

So are those the semi-ceramic or the full ceramic?
Thanks Also, are there wear indicators/ grooves on the front OEM z51 pads. I can see them in the rear. The front however are plenty thick, but i do not see a groove. |
