Respect the ones in the 9's!!!!
I decided to start this thread for the guys that want to go fast and hit the 9.99 or better with a S/C, Turbo or Nitrous.
I have made the 11s with not to much effort with a ECS S/C System! I made some changes with a Drag Pac and reached the 10s! But for those trying to reach the 9.99 single digits, Good Luck I just want to give praise to those running 9.99 or better as this takes Time, Money, Weather conditions, patience, great tune, data logging! I am in the process of getting to a 9.99 pass or better and understanding all the challenges along the way! I hope the Veterans will step in to share some knowledge as to what it takes to see these fast times.................................. |
Its all about getting the combo right. I ran 10.4-10.5 @ 16-138 for years. When my trans let go I changed the stall & put in a brake. That's what it took to put me in the 9s.

You'll get there on the right day
Are you data logging during the runs? In my original quest for the 9's I was some what HP limited (26" drag pack, meth, cam, headers, Vigilante 2800 stall with a S Trim pushing 13lbs on a stock LS1). I had to adjust the tune for the track/ temp that day. With my current setup 9's are, I hate to say, easy.... All it takes is money, money, and more money and you'll own the 9's. Down side is you won't own much else  |
Dont worry once u get there u will want faster

It seems that every time I hit the track, I don't get what I need to be able to really focus on my car and make passes. It's always something. Going as support with my friends and customers, where they focus on driving and I focus on their car with respect to setup and tune seems to be a great recipe for getting it done. |
You'll get there. Besides just money, it takes lots of time and effort perfecting the combo. You should keep at it and not take the summer off. This allows time to deal with all different issues you may encounter. Once I reached the 9's, I had to figure out a way to slow it down so I don't get kicked out. People found that amusing too. Good luck on your quest!

Log everything. Everything. Not just the car, weather, rpm at line, shift points, make minor changes, and do 3 or 4 passes. 1 isnt enough to know if your changes were right. Youll get there. Takes time, practice and money.

I've built, tuned, and driven a few quick vettes over the last few years.
My advice is: Build a well-planned combo. *Have a killer street tune dialed in. Show up at track with a "I'm in it to win it" mindset. Give the track worker a $20 and tell him you're going for a record. Then lean on the tune and dial in the suspension till they shut the place down. *I think the biggest hurdle to having a record track outing, is dealing with "bugs". I'm always big into pushing the car really hard before hitting the track or giving it back to the client, because I want to catch the bugs while it's still in the shop being worked on. Then when we hit the track there's less drama and more hauling azz. :woohoo: |

Dude that means you can't drive!

Then when you get to 9.99, bring your car up to Denver and start again back at 10.7 :D

ten years ago = 9's are tough and there was only a handful of people who could get there.
today = walk in the park, 8's are the new mile marker IMHO. Take a road trip here and I'll have that car in the nines first day out or steak dinner is on me.. :yesnod: (that intake manifold goes in the trash first though) |
