Front Tow Hook Dimensions?

Hi,

I was looking to build myself a front-mounted tow hook, but I'm not sure how long/wide it needs to be. Does anyone have dimensions that they used to make one? Also, what grade/alloy did you use?

Thanks!

I am curious about this, as well. Also - where is the best spot to mount it?

I just ordered the OEM factory hook and bracket for the C6 Z06/ZR1, I'll take a pic and measure it when it gets here next week.

I remember looking up the various regs on tow hooks when I was designing my C 4 front tow hooks. My tow hooks have an oval hole measuring 2" x 2.5". This oval hole (eyelet) is more than adequate for a hook or strap to be attached.

I still Have ready: C 4 front tow hooks, C 4 front cable guide (a different type of tow hook) and fire extinguisher mounts for C 4-5-6.

How much for a C4 front tow hook?

Certain sanctioning bodies have different dimensions, matl reqts. too, so you may need to check those if it matters.

Here is a pic of the factory C6 tow hook for european export

GM part number 10438557

It is roughly 7" long and the eye has an inside diameter of 1-5/8"

It costs around $30 from forum vendors

There is a factory OEM bracket that has to be welded to the front cross member. Yes you have to remove the bumper but this is the only GM engineered solution and you don't have to cut any holes in the bumper or grill and the hook screws in and out.

The other aftermarket ones look like kinda of an after thought to me and I question their strength and practical use. The GM hook is forged steel and looks 4x the thickness of the popular aftermarket ones. The reciever bracket welded to the front cross member is steel for all C6's except the Z06/ZR1 that are aluminum billet for the aluminum frame.
