Keep crossfire or switch to something else.

I have been reading many posts about crossfires on this forum. Now I have joined this forum today. What is the best route to go? Bang for the buck. Stay crossfire, go carb, LSX, if it is going to run up to $15000 for a swap. I would be better off just buying an early C5. Only problem is I like the early C4 vettes. My goal would be to run low to mid 13's. Is that possible with my crossfire?

You will spend alot of money making it perform. You will spend less money getting a Honda to perform like that.

Remember that a 1984 Corvette is nearly 30 years old. They were amazing in their day and still perform very well. Converting to carb will get you performance but you could do all that work and then not get where you want to be. You could swap motors but then there is greater cost.

Auto or 4+3? 3.30 gear? Leak down test, a good tune including balancing the T bodies, check throttle shaft bushings, gain access to the fuel pressure regulator. port the intake, exhaust, 1.6 rockers. There are some guys that have done some pretty cool stuff with the xfire. on the other hand; Its a plane old smog SBC. A cam and top end can get you 350-375hp easy. The only catch is you need to do heads intake cam dizzy and carb together. if you leave any of the xfire stuff on there it will choke the other mods.

This has been done many times with just simply porting the intake.

I like my TBI swap, it cost $50 to put it on and it runs so much better then stock.

My car is basic, 1.6roller tip rockers, 2 1/2 inch exhaust with H pipe, 85 fuel pump and a stock TBI from mixed years (80 something lower and 92 tb).

Im about to pick up a edelbrock performer and make a plate to put my TB on.

With some decent heads and a compression boost and a cam that operates till around 6000rpms I think my car is going to be pretty quick for how old it is.

I have an 84 Z51 with 70K on it. I pulled the crossfire and put a ZZ4 intake, 600 Edelbrock carb, Accel HEI, Mallory FPR, and a Crane 274H06 (218-218, .450 lift, 106 LSA), AC delete and smog pump delete on. I kept the stock 624 heads and stock springs on for now but the car has lots more power and better driveablity now and the 106 LSA has a nice rump to it. If I put a set of 190 AFR heads on it I would be at around 350 HP. Right now I am probably close to 270 HP and it really is not a hard conversion. Has better performance than my old 76 L82 that was modded. I am running true dual exhaust with no cats with the stock tube factory manifolds. Just my 2 cents worth. It is your car and your money so you have many options on how you get your increased power.
