Which cam did you choose and why?
I've read many threads, and spent many hours researching the various options for my ls7. I'm 99% sure I will go with the Katech Torquer 110 based on Katech's bulletproof reputation and the drivability of the cam. I'm simply looking to drag race and cruise around in my weekend warrior, making as much power as possible while still retaining some form of comfort.
Please post the cam you decided to use and why.. I apologize in advance for creating another thread on this topic. Thanks, Geoff |
I chose the Katech torquer. I wanted strong torque, and good driveability, and I knew they'd done valvetrain testing with it (something a lot of cam grinders don't do/can't afford to do).
If I were do all again, I'd pick that same cam again. |
Stick with Katech, they have proven reliability!

I went with a comp lsr 231/ 247 on a 115lsa. I wanted drivabilty and power all over. I got it. low end is very strong and pulls hard all the way up. great street manners and gas mileage improved on the highway with ported and milled heads in the combo. this is a great street strip cam and it has been very reliable. power was 554rwhp and 508rwtq stock ported intake and tb. so more power and tq can be found later with a ported fast set up. if you do a cam pull your heads and have the guides checked. mine were worn along with the exhaust valves.

Lethal Racings Phantom. Drives like stock. Ramp rate is easy on the valve springs too. With CAI, headers, ported stock intake, and ported and polished throttle body. 551/510

I went with the Black Widow from Vette-Air. It is a nasty and very aggressive cam with proven power. Vette-Air also has a great reputation and they provide outstanding customer service.

Thank you for the responses, this thread is heading in the exact direction I was hoping.
Anyone with Texas speed, GMPP, LG? |
Ragin Racin Lethal cam. 232/250 113lsa Car dives like stock and still gets great gas milage, and the best part is im 575rwhp and 520rwtq :D

I had Geoff Skinner spec out one of his custom EPS grinds to match the flow numbers off my heads after they were ported. Air Flow Development (Dennis Wheet) ported / rebuilt the heads for me. I'm still tweaking the tune, and it's far from finished, but it is behaving much more nicely than I thought it would under 2000 rpm, and it's down right violent above 3000. (235/255 113+3 646/670)
I went the EPS as I prefer endurance grinds. I went with AFD because Dennis is a friggin genius with port design. |

Lingenfelter GT19 (227/239 on a 114).
Mild lope. Drives like stock... happy to cruise at 1,100rpm in 6th... no surging, stalling or any other such issues. |
243 / 259 on a 114
Comp cam 660 lift with 1.8 rockers. In a 454 runs good a little surging. At 1,500. Does 580 hp and 545 hp / tq on a super flow tough dyno stock tuned z does like 425 hp 400 tq on it.

hows driveability on the widow cam??

I've tried many cams in many engines and I've never had a good all around cam like the Katech Torquer 110 that we have in our Katech 427 now. It makes power right off idle and pulls likt hell to redline.
After driving many different combos, I will take higher torque down low over "dyno queen" HP up top any day of the week and twice on race day. :D |

I wouldn't recommend it for a daily driver but it isn't as bad as some of the other camm'd Zs I have been in. The tune plays a HUGE role in driveability. Carlos is an expert at tuning cars with the cams he sells. The driveability was 10x better once I scrapped my old tuner and had him tune it. There is surging around 1,600-1,800 rpm.

black mamba here, sounds wicked and can haul some F'IN mail

comp lsr grind. 235/251 on a 114lsa. I had driven and ridden in many 231/247 lsr grind cars and they drove great. very little surging at 1200-1300rpms. I wanted a step up in power so i chose the next grind up. It came on a 113 off the shelf, but we had it ground on a 114 to help with drivability and keep the power upstairs as the car is so light as it is.
I ended up with 617whp/532wtq with all boltons and heads. Car surges at 1500-1600 and is good after that. Knowing that the car makes so much power now, I probably would have gone with the Lingenfelter gt 19 or or maybe even the torquer if i could get 575 out of it as that was the goal. |
Torquer because of their valve train testing. Also for the torque. I have had cams with superchargers on past cars, but I like the torque better. I do not have to spin the nuts off the car to get into the power band :).

Any cams from Livernois out there?
Thank you for all the great feedback everyone! |
