I made a trip recently to Bowling Green…. BIG MISTAKE! I will be selling my 03 in the next 4-6 months and buying a lightly used or new C6 Grand Sport….
I have a 03 that is a daily drive (as the new GS will be) in great shape except for several minor item that I am fixing... wear issues. Center console cover being replaced and putting new seat covers on. It has new (1 year old) chrome factory wheels, new tires, powder coated calipers and an air box mod. Paint is above average for a daily driver and I will have about 95K miles when I sell it and as C5s go.. I would jump in it and drive it coast to coast today without worry… Great car. Figuring I will get somewhere 17-19K for it when I sell it…

Here is what I am struggling with… I have a VR cold air system that has not been installed and a HUD kit not installed yet. Is it worth me installing it prior to selling it or will I be better off selling car and mods separately. Please give me your input and views as if you were a buyer or from experience as a C5 seller.

I'd sell the car and the mods separately. I think that you'll get more money that way.

I too would sell the mods separately. Those two things won't increase the value of the car as much as you should be able to get from just selling the mods by themselves.

The HUD may make the car more sell-able, but probably won't add any value. It's a cool option though, which might make a difference to some buyers.

Performance mod's add next to nothing to the value. Sell the VR separate.

Agreed. Sell separably. Modifications are known to lower the value if anything. I always put a car as close to stock before selling and hit Craigslist with the performance parts.

This is an easy one...sell off all the simple to remove mods, and use that cash toward your new one. Return the car as close to stock as possible without having to pay someone to do the work for you. Plan on trading in the car at your dealer...they prefer stock cars, and you will get about the same bang for the buck by offsetting the dealer offer with the cash from all the removed mods...not to mention no hassle selling the car yourself to a complete stranger. That's my plan, and I am sticking to it...going for a GS same as you. Also, get yourself a GM credit card and earn 5% toward your new ride, up to $3000 can be used right now. And, if you know someone who works for GM they can sponsor you for a new vette using GM employee pricing which is $3500 off right now. Also, if you belong to a credit union there is another discount available. It all adds up to many thousands off a brand new vehicle with a full warranty. Oh I forgot...right now if you have a non-GM vehicle in your household on a lease, there is an extra $2000 off til July 2. And finally, there is the 0% financing for 60 months til July 2nd . I am so tempted to do it right now, but I am holding out for the C7...just another year or less!!

Forgot to mention, these savings relate to remaining 2012 stock, and there are many out there. I suspect the same offers witll come around on the 2013s once the C7 is close to production. GM did it when the last C5 model (2004) ended production, and I see no reason why they won't repeat it for the C7.

Or keep the parts an tell the buyer you'll throw the parts in for free...

I've never seen mods add to the value of anything. Harley is the same way...never get money back for all the chrome and engine mods. Sell em separate or trade for stuff that fits the new one.

Some prospects would be afraid if you have performance modification that the car may have been abused, I would sell the car and the parts separatly or like one post suggested offer the parts as an incentative to close the deal.

All good stuff to know! Just remember to still negotiate as dealerships can still suck up a lot of these incentives into a higher sticker price.

Plus, even though there are good deals now, imagine next year when the C7s start showing up. I closed a great deal on my new C5 in the summer of 2004 when the C6 started to arrive. Love a smokin deal with a free 0% loan!

I doubt it. The point of returning it to stock is so they think that it wasn't tampered with. If you say hey I have all these parts that I used to have on the car you would be giving yourself away.

That's exactly what I was talking about above....I recall new 2004 C5's were going for $36000.....dealer offered me 22k for my 97, but in the end I held off because all I was basically getting was a color change. It will be different when the C7 comes out....the trick is to be ready to pounce on the hottest C6 2013s.:thumbs:

all parts that are not on the car sell seperate or offer to new buyer as extra cost things you bought to enhance the car. If he buys for xtra $$ cash win win if he doesn't sell to someone here once again win win. I would not buy seat covers for it as what you like might not be what I LIKE as for the 1yr old stuff just leave it on the car and sell it that way. Once again just my .02 if you have other stock parts that were on the car give those to the new buyer as a token of purchase. To give is to recieve and man it happens.

I would put the HUD in. It will make it more attractive to a buyer. My humble opinion.

Sell them separately. Most guys, like me, would like to pick and install their own stuff.

I'd make these items an "after thought," offering them once a deal is made on the final price of the car to the buyer, if he/she does not want to pay extra for them, I'd move on and place them in "for sale" ads. :thumbs:
