SCCA T1 Racing In 2013 - A Petition for Change
A coalition of T1 drivers has prepared a petition to SCCA with respect to pending changes to the T1 class. Those drivers include Joe Aquilante, Roy Benedetti, Bill Brinkop, Al Camano, Gary Hoffman, Bob Kahn, Bob Kelley, Kyle Kelley, Chuck Mathews, Matt Merrill, Dave Sanders, Oli Thordarson and Jim Tway
We are asking for your support! You can review and sign our petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/scca_t1_racing/ Thanks in advance for your support, Chuck #38 T1 Corvette PS: If you don't have an SCCA membership, just note you are a motorsports enthusiast |
I of course signed it.
I also posted the link on my FaceBook page and I am asking all my racing friends who are interested in T1 to sign it in support of our effort. I ask all our Corvette Forum friends to do the same. If you don't have an SCCA member number just skip that field. Oli |

Thanks for the sigs guys . Our goal is to keep T1 fast so we can run our corvettes (C5, C6, C7?) at full potential along with the other fastest production cars (vipers, porsche, etc.). Corvettes need a spec racing class and right now T1 is it. NASA ST2 is great and I race there also, but it is far from a spec class. Spec racing is fun because the racing is always tight and it comes down to driver and car setup, tire management, etc. If they slow down T1 and push the C6 out of the class then T1 will basically become T2. I really like my T1 car right now which is why I'm against changes. T1 is growing by 2 or 3 cars a year in CA. I think a spec class for corvettes has a lot of potential with some sensible and stable rules.

If SCCA adopts their changes as is, you could very well see 10 more NASA ST-2 cars next year.

I know NASA does not need any more classes any more than SCCA needs more classes, but....
We are really like the quasi spec nature of T1 racing. The cars are all so very equal. It would be nice to be able to race as a class within a class like ST-2. I know Tom Dragoun of Sevens Only has a series he runs with his Mazda GT2 cars running in ST2. Maybe NASA has some ideas.... |
NO MORE CLASSES! We all like the idea of a "Spec-Vette" class, but we need car counts, not 5 different classes with 2-3 people in each.

No. We don't want to do that. We feel that ruins the essence of racing quasi spec cars that are all so near to equal. We have race finishes in 2010 and 2011 separated by .043 and less in which SCCA officials went to the cameras as the transponders were not accurate due to possible transponder placement. Those finishes were mere inches or less at the finish line. I know that for me personally I was second place at WSIR to Ryan Cashin by the .043 finish. I think that is about 2 inches or so at 100 MPH. Oli |
