Bench Racing V - Are you more satisfied with a loss on a .475 light or .575 light?
 

Basically the question is, do you err on the green side and are satisfied losing a race with a high .5 light or would you be happier knowing you tried to hit the tree so hard you missed by .025?


For me, I am happier losing with a .475 than a .575. Why? Closer to .500. I think it might be easier to wait .025 than it will be to find .075

How do you approach the tree?

:lol: :lol: :lol: Red and you're dead! I'd almost rather hit the wall than go red....but to answer your question, I wouldn't be satisfied with either. I try to stage exactly the same way everytime so that so that my practice tree sessions pay off. There are so many other factors that can influence your reaction time and we just do our best to control as many as possible.

I prefer to lose on a .575 light vs a .475 light.... I am very mad at myself if I didn't force my opponent to race.

I realize the old saying "If you don't go red every now and then you're not trying hard enough"... but I think with a lot of practice you can go out and hit .520.-.540's fairly consistently while also limiting your red percentage to a very reasonable #.

But to each his own... some are more comfortable chasing the light a lot harder.

I'd rather go .575 than .475... reason.. maybe he will spin, or run out..if I lose with a .575 & ran within .02 of my dial, that means he just plain out raced me.. whereas .. I went .491 in first round of the CC .. meaning I lost before the 60' clock had I gone .575 I may have won..he had a .620

You never want to beat yourself and loose all chance of winning.

.500 lites are way over rated.

You have to have a green light to win!

Not every round win has to be a .500 light. Think back how many rounds you've won with .570's, I've never had a win with a .475 unless the other guy redlighted first or crossed the outside line.

Redgar (Moriagi-san): my vote is as follows:

"E" - All of the above. You can sometimes win with a .575 but you can NEVER win with a .475 unless you are the second driver to redlight.

The tough part for me is that I practice for a .510 - .530 light and that means that I am more likely to redlight (in practice and reality) until I can establish more consistency. That means that I am more willing to risk losing an actual race in the short run while hoping that this strategy will improve my long-term performance.

Okay all good points but some of you might have missed the subject and my intent of the question.

The assumption is you have lost the race. In one situation with a .475 and the other with a .575.

While we hate to lose, which one will you blame yourself more for......being too aggressive or being too slow?

As you know, I am a novice, but really getting the racing fever....

My feeling as a newbie, while trying to cut a great light is,
if your gonna lose as REDGAR proposes, at least if you get the .575 light you have a chance.
The .475 is a loser every time. (Unless the other guy reds as well)

Funny you should use .475 as an example. I cut a .475 in the first round at the cruise in :rolleyes:

Donzr1 lost on a .499 :eek:

I'm never satisfied with a loss....period!!! But if i had to choose, i'd take the .575 over the red light.
