Opinions on Dead Pedal Exhaust Switch

The Old School setup for a mild to wild switch, where the switch is pressed with the foot, seems very clever. Now that some people have had it for a while, has it ever gotten in the way when you did some spirited driving and had to brace yourself against the dead pedal?

Has anyone ever broken it off with their foot?

Had mine over a year. Never had any problems, still can't imagine a better place for it.

I have had mine for over two years with no problem. The best $1.75 I ever spent.

I didn't want to rip out the interior of my car and drill a hole in it so I went with the M2W. I don't know what your time is worth, but the $85 I spent on the M2W with the two remotes was well worth it to me(and I'm retired and work very cheap). I have no problem reaching into the cup holder and pushing the button on the remote with my hand, vs pushing a switch on the dead panel with my foot.

Programmed mine to my visor homelink and works great

It took 10 minutes to install and there are no additional fobs or batteries to deal with.

It could not be easier.

By the way there is no "ripping out" of the interior. There are two nuts (10MM think) to take off and the plastic dead pedal pops right out. 10 minutes for the whole installation.

Did you just run the wires from the passenger side fuse panel over to the driver's side dead pedal over the top of the carpet and over the top of the console?

5 years for my dead pedal switch and no issues. Very easy install with no ripping anything. Use an add a circuit, a click type lamp switch and wire. Use a coat hanger to fish the wire over the console, tuck it behind the carpet at the top behind the pedals. Less than $15 and the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

I have a M2W programmed to the Homelink visor buttons on the 2006, but although it can be done on the newer cars with the Lear Car2u visor with the Sunset Orange Creations unit, I just decided to go with the old-school button on the dead pedal for the 2009:

I've had it on there for more than 2-1/2 years now with no problems at all!!

Even with my size 13's there's no problem accidentally hitting it.

I too have had the dead pedal switch for 3 yrs/48k miles, and love it. No fob to lose or battery to die. Don't need to take my hands off the wheel to use it.

About once every 6 months, I'll turn it on by accident. Big deal, just tap it with my foot and it's off.

Four years now and have not lost a FOB. But then I don't remove them from the car. One stays in the cup holder, the other in the glovebox. I did have to spit up a couple of dollars last year to replace the battery in the one in the cupholder. I'll do without eating for the rest of the year to pay for it. The sacrifices one has to make to survive.

OP - I've had mine for a year and was an easy install even for me!! Never switched it on in error nor broken. Did take it out when dealer was going to do some work and used the coathanger to put it back in.

I love having the sound available with just a quick tap.

child_of_fire 07-31-2012 11:58 PM

went with the sunset orange set-up which allows it to be incorporated into the reset button on the bezel above the start button. that works for me.

I have had mine for two years. Never switched it on by accident and it has never broken. If you think this might be a problem (or you wear size 14 EEE shoes) mount the switch at the very top of the dead pedal.:D

I had the foot switch on my z06 for about three years and I really liked it there.

This is so easy to do - just fish the wire behind the console, takes about 2 min. BTW I opted for a toggle switch under the dash vs the dead pedal button. MTW is a great idea but I like DIY stuff just because it's fun, like driving around in the Vette

AmmoVet 08-01-2012 10:07 AM

I've had it a 3 or 4 years and no problems. I am doing autocross this year and it does not get in the way at all. Don't have time to use the dead pedal or even think about it.

Polar Jet 08-01-2012 10:36 AM

Haven't had mine on for too long, but it has been flawless thus far. I too cannot think of a better spot for it. I love that fact that nobody can ever see me flip it.
