C6 Z06 brake upgrade

Wow....

After spending a day with ZR-1 brothers in Virginia, we installed a few items:

32mm sway bar
new A arms (with new bushings / ball joints) *polished up too!!
new front hubs

C6 Z06 calipers / 1 piece ceramic brake pads / stock Z06 rotors

There is a huge difference, even with Ceramic pads!

Going to install the rear brake calipers / rotors in the coming week. (can't wait!!!)

Thanks to Yun, Gibby, Mark, Matthew ***(new to most), Paul, Mike **(new), Glen and especialy Rich for hosting this!!!!!

Lots of pictures and will document the C6 Z06 brake upgrade for the newsletter.

You do need larger wheels in order to accomodate the large 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear.... WORTH IT!

For asthetics and stopping power

Here is a teaser

Very nice and looks great!

I agree!

I haven't done the rears because I want to keep the parking brake,
and I don't want to have to buy/install different backing plates.
What is your plan?

And I can toss my spare. Won't work/fit. I have a can of slime and a
patch kit. I will just hope I don't get a flat. Do you know of a spare
that will work?

Good Luck!

PS: Wow, we both installed our "Fikse" center caps upside down! JK
PSS: I'm jealous you did it all in a day. I spent A LONG time first getting
the caliper adapter bracket right, then fighting with sizing a new braided
SS brake line. Wish I was near a group like WAZOO, TEXAS, or FBI!

Figures, right after I post, I see your first picture. Much better shot,
and mine is the same set up.

Will the late model GTO spare work with the C6 calipers??? It works with the C5 calipers. The Fikse shown also works with C5 clipers.

That GTO spare won't fit on my '08 C6 without a spacer, but I have the slightly larger Z51 rotors. I have heard it will fit over the base coupe C6 brakes since they are about the same size as c5 brakes.

I would look for the 18" CTS spare tire- they are rumored to fit these late model brakes.

btw, the brake pad for the regular C6 caliper and the C5 are the same part. the caliper is a little different on the C6, but it uses the same pad so I don't see why one would bother when the C5 stuff fits on the C4's without too much trouble. Now the Z06 6-pot calipers are a different story entirely. Big difference i'm sure.

Thanks, Mike. I was just wondering for these guys' sake. I plan on keeping my 17" Dymags on my Turq Z.

Maybe install the C6 ZR-1 brake setup on my next Z and run bigger wheels????/

Right, and I BELIEVE the front rotors (C6 Z06) are larger at 14".
My wheels are 18", so I don't think the GTO will fit.

E brake plan? None for now, I never use it. (this kit can connect to a line lock to the rear, but passed on it)

Spare? I'm calling a AAA for a flat bed!

Your going to have to convert to a hub style E-brake for the rears or have a 2nd small rear cal. like on Wilwood/DRM set up. I beleive the 2nd option was limited because the thickness of the Zo6 rotors. GL

Any suggestions to upgrade stock brakes on 2007 z06?

USAFPILOT 06-26-2013 10:43 PM

18's or 19's?

My suggestion is to do it. You need 18" wheels for the front.

Does anyone make the brackets for the front/rear to bolt on? What rotors are used/sizes? I was planning to take the Baer setup I have for my 93 and use it on the Z but may look into doing this instead. The new wheels I am building show a LOT of brake and insides so I def need a better brake setup asap.

Hell with the ebrake

-=Jeff=- 06-27-2013 08:16 AM

there was a guy that was selling the brackets in the forsale section and I saw some on eBay

the front is just the c4 to c5/c6 bracket as I recall.. not sure about the rear

I have a 2007 z06 with 18 and 19s - any suggestions?

Dominic Sorresso 06-27-2013 08:56 AM

Brackets available on eBay. The C5/C6 adapters need a slight modification for the Z06 brakes. Need C6 Z brake lines. With the Z06 rotors I can use the Z06 wheel offset and be very close to stock tire/wheel clearance.

95ZR1 06-27-2013 04:25 PM

Your spare will be useless. You will need a 2008-2011 Cadillac
CTS 18"spare and a (min) 3/4" adapter or spacer. Then
try and get it to fit in the spare tire carrier- tight!
Thanks WVZ!
This is for a C6 Z06 caliper only

Have u test fit this? I was told CTS 18" wouldn't work. The other question I have is whether our stock spare would work w a spacer thick enough to clear the C6Z calipers?

This is the set-up I have on my Z. The 18" CTS donut spare fits
and clears a C6 Z06 caliper WITH AN ADAPTER/SPACER
