How to cut a .500 light

Does anyone have any technique they'd like to share? Wich yellow are you guys reacting to? How do you stage? does that have anything to do with it?

Per stage, Stage.
Close your eyes, count to 3, and launch.

Thats as good as any method.

You can't copy anyone here, just to many thing that control launch/ reaction time. You must fine what works best for you.
I know there are racers her like Beach, OD, Ralph, Panuzzo and myself that could talk for days on this topic and thats because we tried it all.

Practice. However, trying to cut .500 is very dangerous. If you miss too early you will go red. i try to hit a .5teen light each time.

You have to experiment. Car, track and driver will make launches very different.

I have an A4. I load my converter to about 2000 and watch for 3rd yellow to come on. This is with a very shallow stage. If I do not load, I cut bad lights.

I have cut a few .50x lights recently but usually am a high teen to high 30 range

I normally launch from idle and stage shallow. On the 3rd yellow I smash the gas to the floor and usually wind up with a .52-.55.

It really depends on how your are seeing the lights on the tree, & how fast your car reacts to you mashing the gas..

Example if its a "BRIGHT SUNNY" day & I hit the gas as soon as the last yellow goes on I am around .540 - 560 however if its "NIGHT" racing & I hit the gas as soon as I see the last yellow I'll go RED..

The reason in the dark you see the filament of the bulb light much sooner than in the bright light...

Another thing is staging, if you light the bottom bulb, & accidently go in another 3-4" you reaction time will be quicker.. maybe TOO quick... :(

It's a science, & PRACTICE

Hey, does everyone have an automatic or what ? Anyone with a manual care to comment on technique? I imagine there must be a difference.

Science, my...!!! It's strickly voodoo!

Otherwise, you get .500 lights the same way you get to Carnegie Hall.

Good luck.

Then I raced my 4 SPD super stock chevelle. On the first yellow I bring the revs up to 9000 and on the last yellow side step the chutch and hold on.
Try that with your Vette, It would be a fun ride aleast once. ;)

footbraking with no electronics its luck to hit a .500 regardless of who you are.... but its a lot of practice and some skill to consistently be right off that #.

When you figure it out... let me know, I could use the help. :)

cheers,
