Tough one man...It all depends on what you really want at the end of the day...I will say this, you can never go wrong with a Z06, just sayin,
Good Luck sir, win/win situation

I currently own an 02 Z06 and jointly own a 67 RS/SS Camaro with my son. Each car offers its own high points. The Z06 offers "Outstanding "
bang for the bucks. I can cruise in A/C and comfort and get 29 mpg or I can run the RPMs up a little and get 7/8 mpg. It provides a big "WOW " factor. The 67, with its .030 over 396 offers a big "WOW" factor also. However, during the summer heat its not very comfortable. Plus it rides somewhat harder than the Z06. I can't decide for you, but you may enjoy the Z06 more.

I just sent via paypal cash towards the vette. The camaro is nice, i need a car(says my wife) that can be used as a car if our truck or older lexus is down. The old car is going to be prostreet radical car. I will put that off a year to year and a half. I will only owe 10k on the vette. Just pay it off.

Gotta go vette. More reliable for long jaunts, more comfortable, faster, better handling, braking, you name it. Camaro SS is nice for sure...but if you can't have both I'd take the vette. I've toyed with all kinds of old muscle and...to be honest it just isn't that exciting. The cars really don't do anything well...they're 50 years old...lol.

67 Camaro SS all the way.

Notstaglic fun factor, lots of attention, fun at cruise nights, and it WILL GO up in value where the C5 Z will go down in value on a monthly basis.

I have been blessed to owned classic american muscles cars and modern vettes both over the last 11 years, and honesty, they are two COMPLETELY different animals and you just need to figure out which one you want more.

Since they both serve 100% different purposes should not be that difficult of a decsion.

Heres my final advice 5 years from now the 67 Camaro will be going for the same or more $, and the C5 Z will be going for less money. So, grab the 67 Camaro SS now when you can and snag a C5 Z in the future for Cheap!

I have a 1st gen Camaro and a Z06. You can ride in a long distance, road eating, cookie cutter rocket ship or a cool looking classic pop can.
Depends on how you want to roll and how much money you want to lose.

You made the right decision considering your need for a 2nd vehicle if one of your others is down. Having owned a C3 before my Z I can appreciate the wow factor of an older classic car. But for reliability and comfort, the Z is the better choice.

Plus you're not going to lose your shirt on it like some might think. In fact the prices have begun to stabilize and in some cases tick up on C5s. The 67 would hold more of its value I'm certain, but you'll be OK over the next few years IMO.

Hope you love it.

I just bought my z06 and wouldnt trade it for a older camaro even if it was worth more. I love my z06.

Just coming from an Lt1 z28 to a c5z is a night and day difference in handling, power and refinement. I had a 70 SS 396 Nova in highschool back in the late 80's, other than straight line accelaration and looking cool, that car did nothing else well. That cars handling could only be described as unsafe, lol. As much as I loved that car at the time, I couldn't go back to driving one again after owning a c5z.

I've owned a 1967 Firebird 400 and my current Z06. You are comparing two VERY different vehicles. The 1967 Firebird 400 I owned was bone stock, had 70K miles when I bought it, and was a well optioned car (Hood tach, safe-t-track 3.08 rear end, numbers matching, Protect-o-plate, etc.) When I sold the car, Pontiac actually contacted me to buy it for their museum, it was a very nice car. The Z06 I currently own is also pretty much bone stock, but has been a mechanical lemon for me. I just bought the wrong Z06 by chance, most are great cars.

The 1967-
When stock, the '67 is a pretty crappy car to drive. The brakes are scary, they get zero traction at launch, etc. In the rain, they are plain unsafe. You could modify the car to remedy these major faults, but that would be expensive and you won't get your money back if you sell it. The '67 will smell cool, sound cool, look cool, be SMOG exempt, and turn more heads. If kept stock and in great shape the car won't depreciate and you can probably sell it for as much, or more, than you pay for it. Parts are very easy to find for these, easier than the Z06 I'd say!

The Z06-
This car can handle with the best, while the '67 can't handle with a modern pickup truck. The Z06 will be MUCH quicker/faster and perform better in every way. The Z06 will be more comfortable and more reliable (unless you buy my car.) The Z06 will also use MUCH less gas.

My summary-
I would rather own the Z06, which is why I do own one. I am into performance, and a classic f-body just can't touch Z06 performance. I love old muscle cars, and I would love to own another but not if that means giving up a modern performance car out of my garage. If I were to buy a classic car, it would either be a chrome bumper C3 Corvette (great classic value), Buick GS455 (another great value), or Mopar B-Body...not an f-body. I've driven them all, and the f-body just doesn't drive well IMHO. I haven't driven a 1st generation Z/28, and that might change my opinion slightly, but I doubt it. I would much rather have a 427 Vette, LT1, GS455, or 440 powered B-body (I used to own a '69 Roadrunner).

Keep in mind if you go this route eventually, you should just buy a car that is already modified. Modifying a car this way is one of the few ways to lose A LOT of money on a classic f-body. Not only will you spend a ton of money on the mods, but the value of the car will go down at the same time, 9 out of 10 times.

What you paying for the Z?

Paul 75 L82 08-20-2012 06:40 PM

I built this 72 myself in my 2 car garage. Won every car show I went to for years. I wanted something else so I bought my Z06. I kept the Camaro for another year and then sold it. I'm very happy with the Z06. Do I miss the Camaro? Sometimes yes but overall I'm OK with my choice. Will I build another hot rod? Maybe!
