have a cat back question
im considering buying a power effects cat back system and i am wondering what everyone here thinks of them good and bad feed back will help me alot in my choice
|
Cat back systems will not add any power.
Is that what you are wanting to know? If you are referring to a specific catback, (Power Effects) I have never heard of that system. I'f indeed that is a catback with that name, I don't think you will be getting many responses of members with that brand. |
I've never heard of Power Effects exhaust for a C5. :confused2:

i have seen some videos and the company is power effects i have been to their website im just wondering how they hold up, they claim to be a tunable muffler and flow better then most or all other brands i will post heir site here in a moment

The general consensus is that bolt on cat back (really axle back) exhausts are not a performance modification. They are meant for sound and the look from the rear. Regardless of how well a system flows, the flow of the entire system is inhibited by restrictive heads and catalytic converters.
All companies have their own muffler design that they claim outflows the rest. Most all systems are 2.5"and will do the same thing. |
Catback
Smells fishy!

http://www.powereffects.com/indexmain.html[/url] Still have never heard of them, did a search of the C5 forum and can't seem to find ANYTHING about them...That should be a good indication to stick to popular exhaust, they're popular for good reason  |
Stick with the brand names that ppl know of; Borla, Corsa, LG, TPiS, AMR and the like.
|
I strongly recommend listening to an exhaust sound in person prior to buying it. Exhaust sound from each of the brand/manufacture sounds totally different and unique. What works for some, may not be the same for others.
|
That site shows a C4, not C5. I would stick to the more popular brands.

There are two reasons to change the axle back in a C5 weight being the most important, stock to lets say a Ti system will save ~25 lbs and sound as was stated before IMHO

"Sounds good" is subjective - you need to hear them in person. Also if you plan on adding H/C or headers they will get louder with these mods. Despite any power claims of manufacturers there is not much to be had there - especially for the price. Good Luck with your choice  |
You can find dyno results here showing a catback can be good for around a 10hp to 12hp gain.
I've also never heard of Power Effects. |

I've also never heard of Power Effects. I would recommend the Z06 titanium catback - it flows well and is about the lightest thing with mufflers you can find. |
You can gain or loose 10-12hp on a dyno depending on temps, weather, load, etc etc. Buy a catback for noise don't expect hp though. It's been proven already.
|
Like I say allot in threads. Its that initial tune that gives the power. If you were to tune a car and then stick an axle-back on and re-tune, the gain would be minimal or nothing.
|
I'm confused. Did I post anything at all about gaining 10-12hp from both changing the system and tuning? Where did you guys come up with this crap about the 10-12hp gains being from the tune?

Seems like it would be kind of a waste of money and time to just throw an exhaust on the car and dyno it just to see what your HP is. :confused2: |
