•• Will be Checking a New Set of Factory LS7 Heads ••

Have a new set of stock, replacement LS7 heads and will disassemble and record the guide dims tomorrow.

Probably they are good but can't tell until bore gauged.

Looking forward to this.

Are you also going to check the angle if the guide center to seat?? And I would assume you are going to do the concentricity of the guide to the seat?? Just curious how much analysis you will be doing on the geometry.

Thanks a ton for doing this, hopefully it will shed some light on this whole issue.

mistermog 10-28-2012 04:58 PM

curious too

Is there a known date of manufacture??:bigears

could you check with a dial indicator the amount of stem movement at the top of the stem when assembled with spring...this way people can compare their movement to fresh head movement to get idea how much wear they may have...without pulling their heads..

I can't imagine you could get an accurate measurenent with the spring still installed. But the heads don't need to be removed to check the stem movement, just the springs.

And, :bigears

These are two years old - never been run or bolted on.

yes, i'll report the runout but generally, this is spot on

mistermog 10-28-2012 10:11 PM

So generally from stock the valves are perfectly meeting, but only goes to crap after the guide wears. So guide wear comes first is what I take from that. :)

yes, these heads from GM typically have excellent seat runout - but let's see where this set falls

AzDave47 10-28-2012 10:44 PM

subscribed, thanks for doing this. With GM saying there are only 6.5 out of 1000 out of spec in that time frame, who wants take bets the guides are out of spec?
