Ugh. I feel sick.
 

Was under the car changing the oil last week and discovered this....

I looked back at old pictures I have taken and can't see any damage, I just bought the car used in August and it def was not there when I picked it up.

The only thing that stands out was I had the required state inspection done a few weeks ago, but the damage doesn't seem to be something that would be caused by a lift arm or anything in the shop, it looks to me like something kicked up off of the front tire but nothing stands out in my memory of hitting anything on the highway, what do you guys think? Pictures aren't the best, took them last night and didn't pull the car out from against the wall.

Definitely rubbed up against something, or something was rubbed against it. If it wasn't there before, the inspection is the likely culprit.

On the bright side, easily fixed by a reputable shop, and since it's so low, you'll never even notice it.

Wow, that's a good one for sure. Can't believe you could hit something that would cause damage like that and not know it. GL with getting it fixed.

:iagree: The inspection station is most likely the culprit. Looks like it was scraped while driving it on or off the lift.

Looks to me like driveway cut out rash.
You get this when you're backing out at an angle and the bottom scrapes up against the cutout. My wife is an expert at this. ;-)

If it was done by the shop during the inspection not much I can do about it weeks later as I can't prove anything.... I'll see how bad it bothers me once spring gets here and look for my repair options. I could have also done it pulling into a few parking lots with shoddy entrances, never thought it scraped bad enough to hit the rockers always sounded like the air dam only but who knows.

Looks like you cut a corner short over a curbe or perhaps a rock boardering a drive or parking area. Too bad, but being down so low no one will notice a slightly less than perfect repai.

I'm sorry about the damage but don't feel too bad....things happen to all of us. Have a couple reputable, 'Corvette savvy' body shops give you repair estimates. It's difficult to tell but the repair may be less involved than you may think. Keep a good thought. :)

I am surprised you didn't notice it when it happened though....it looks severe enough you would have noticed. It's water under the bridge at this point but besides road debris being kicked-up is there any chance you drove over a curb? I've got a much smaller but similar scar on my rocker panel from running over a curb. I pulled alongside a curbed peninsula in a performance shop parking lot once. I was going into the shop to ask where they wanted me to park (the lot was full) when I saw a parking space open-up. I jumped back in the car, pulled forward and made a sharp right hand turn. The only problem was I hadn't cleared the concrete curb. I heard and felt it immediately and knew I screwed-up....a self-inflicted wound. Sh!t happens to all of us. :eek:

Had that happen to a truck I owned.

At speed, drove over a piece of A/C sheetmetal.....front tire kicked it up, and it hit at just the right angle to scrape the paint off the lower body of the truck.

IT Looks like a bunch of white chalky stuff from here.Have you tried rubbing alcohol or some very good cleaner wax on it yet to see how much rubs out?

I'm not sure about the one on the horizontal surface but the long scar in front of that is down to the fiberglass.

You didn't notice it until you were under the car, so who cares?

I have seen nearly that EXACT damage before, and it was caused by a parking lot median. It may not have been the shop, and I would certainly not find that scoring pattern congruent with the arms of a lift or the texture of a ramp.

At some point, you or whoever was piloting the car was probably pulling around a tight corner in a parking lot, or out of a space, and rubbed the rocker along a curb (they're at perfect height for that). It would be very easy not to hear or feel. Don't ask me how I know.

Could have been. Who knows. If I can't notice it in normal use once spring comes around I will ignore it. I didn't think it lined up with damage caused by a lift arm either, would have expected it to be more uniform.

Damage can be fixed, you'll never know it happened.

I had that (not as bad) on my car and it made me sick. So I bought CF side skirts and problem was solved!!!

Ill tell you what. If you were ever going to have something like that happen, it couldnt have happened in a better spot on the right color. Its off the map in terms of what you can see from just standing around the car. Plus any body could easily match that color and airbrush that back to good in no time. Very easy fix. Just cosmetic. Dont let it bother you.
