My engine has arrived - RHS 450cid & AllPro Heads

Special thanks to Chad at Golen Racing Engines for all of your detail work and extra time spent on the dyno testing several cam grinds. Also want to thank Richard over at West Coast Cylinder Heads for taking the time to review the dyno numbers for each of the four cams tested. This really helped me in the final cam selection and I am pretty sure this cam choice will meet my needs - mainly shaking the fillings out of my teeth at idle.

Once engine is installed and tuned - Idle video will follow along with Chassis Dyno Results - goal is 600hp to the tire.

Who's offset differential mounts are you using? They look like OEM C6 pieces. Have they been modified to make the studs offset?

WKMCD 12-19-2012 06:19 PM

Great build. Richard is a great guy with some great products. He was involved in the multiple iterations of my build.

You should be over 600RW easily. My little 427 was at 656hp on the Superflo engine dyno and does 577RWHP with 530RWT. I run Richards Stage 3 L92/LS3 heads with a little 234-242 cam and it's so mild my wife could drive it.

Question for you...Does Richard like the CHE rockers with the .660 lift? I really need to get the YT's out of my car. I've already broken a few from two different sets.

Congrats again.

Adding the engine dyno graph.. You should be able to figure out pretty close to where your rear wheel numbers will end up.

Looks great! Did you consider higher compression and E85/E98? Just curious, not being critical.

My 440c.i. puts 540hp/520tq to the wheels on 11.7:1 and 91. I've been told it's a stingy dyno too, but that doesn't really matter much. I bought my car already built otherwise I would have gone 13.5:1 and E85 for that extra ~5% to the ground.

Thanks for the dyno graph that does give me a benchmark. Richard definitely likes the CHE rocker setup - one less thing to go wrong.

It is a stock C6 cradle only some slight modifications. RPM did the install at thier shop in Indy. Rodney and Jeremy are great guys to work to with and can answer any questions you may have.

He is very meticulous, documents all the details, takes the time to talk with you, and goes the extra mile. Regardless of what some people will tell you. It is very possible to have a stroker not burn any oil...mine doesn't. It's Darton Sleeves LS2 block with a 4.125 bore and a 4 inch crank.

BillY2KFRC 12-21-2012 08:55 AM

Very impressive build, that is going to be a blast once it's all together! Nothing like a quality spare-no-expense N/A build, especially seeing it put into a C5Z! :yesnod:

I think you will especially like that TR6060. I recently went that direction when my built MN12 broke a main shaft and I couldn't be happier. Shifts like butter now, with my RSD short shifter, it feels much nicer than the shifter in my BRZ or my old S2000. Can shift with 1 finger if you want to.

I never realized the C5 B&B Fusion was 3", is that something new they make or was it a custom request? Or am I just dumb and it was always 3"? Either way, very curious to hear your opinions of it.

7LitreC5 12-21-2012 09:00 AM

My setup is the same except that I have a LS7 block. I get about 1500 miles/quart if I am nice to it. Golen is going to bore it +.005 to clean up the bore and use new coated pistons.

That's great to hear. Just about everyone I've ever talked to with a stroker motor has burned at least some oil. That was the biggest reason behind using a new stock internals LS7 crate motor for my 427ci build, not having to worry about that.

I change the oil at 3k miles and it's still not needing any. Shawn Miller built my engine and used nitrited rings which should wear very little over a long time up against the super hard Darton liners.

What I save in oil I more than make up for in gas...

Your right, I have one season on the TR6060 with my old 427cid setup and you can pretty much shift with one finger at any RPM - it is a great upgrade from the T56. I'm using a MGW shifter which I really like.

The 3" C5 Fusion is a custom order from B&B. The trick to get all the potential power to the ground on a big cube N/A build requires the EGT's to remain at reasonable level. Full flow 3" is really the only way to get the exhaust gas out of the combustion chamber quickly, resulting in lower temps.

As far as sound goes I am not to sure what to expect. I know in 'loud mode' it is going to be very loud. But in 'quiet mode' my hope is that it will be Police friendly. I will be posting idle and chassis dyno clips in both modes.

You may want to consider 'lateral gas ports' as an option on your pistons. My understanding is that it will help to push the ring against the cylinder bore thereby reducing the risk of oil burning. They also claim it is good for 7 to 10hp - which is really good value when looking at $/hp.

WKMCD 12-21-2012 11:41 AM

I've run a couple 2.5 inch catbacks one the 403 build with DMH cutouts also. The difference with the cutouts open on the dyno was 12-15rwhp IIRC. It would probably be a little more with the 427. I now run LG's Big 3 catback and the difference with the cutouts open is now only 1 or 2 RWHP. They aren't too loud and sound good. Now I'm 3 inches from the AR 17/8 LT collector to the tips.

Shawn may have used them...not sure on that though. I'll have to go back and look at my notes. It's a pretty well optimized build.

Or a super mild 427 that puts down 577/530RW and makes 420ft/lbs of RWT at 2k RPM. :D

Or a 402 that makes 500rwtq at 2400rpms. :jester

Love me some engine porn. Oh and bigger cubes are awesome, no doubt about it. Looking forward to seeing the videos.

You have some more info on your exhaust?

Would really like to see some pics of the underneath of the Vette where the B&B Fusion goes into your X-Pipe!!! I am doing something similar with the B&B being a 3" slip fit!

It would really help me out if I could get some pics! :D

(1) Headers, size, or C6 Z06 Exhaust manifolds?
(2) X-Pipe 3", for C5 or are you using the C6 Z06 X-pipe?
(3) Cats or catless?

Thanks,Matt

Hey Matt I was really happy with end result. I am hoping that 'quiet mode' will lower the sound level enough to keep our local police happy.

I will be posting idle and dyno video in the next week or so.

I would like see your setup any pics?

torchredmadness 03-03-2013 10:07 AM

That engine is like a work of art. Beautiful.

RHS 450cid Dyno Numbers - Round One

We did several pulls today on Brian Walls Mustang Dyno...best pull was 633rwhp/ 567rwtq.

We stopped tuning at that point as we were running low on fuel pressure at 6,200rpm.

Will be ordering a bigger fuel system tomorrow and will post final numbers, graphs, and video next week. This thing is a monster.

dankhts 03-15-2013 06:06 AM

The goal was 600 to the tire on 91octane. So I am really happy with 633rwhp/ 567rwtq.

Ordered the fuel system upgrade from Lonnie's today and will post final pump gas numbers next week.

Over the next couple of weeks we will also be doing a separate tune with Sunoco 260GT Plus those numbers will be posted as well.

newbs49 03-15-2013 07:49 PM

Very nice numbers. :D
Bigger injectors coming?????

80lb injectors so no problem there, it's a fuel pressure issue. It maintains 60psi until 6200rpm then drops to 30psi and goes lean.
